You know it doesn't work that way. If Slaf did that, he'll literally be the first star player to willingly take short contracts in his late 20s / early 30s since they introduced the cap.

JE was never offered 60 mil out of ELC
 
Great deal, thats what I was advocating we should do with Caufield in 22.

Slafkovsky will be ridiculously underpaid for most of that contract, and that's what you need to win the cup.

Thats what every team should do with their young core coming out of ELC

Lock em up with cost certainty as the cap goes up

Money is typically fair for both and if you want to change direction , suitors are available

If 40-50 point players like DeBrusk are getting 5.5 , how do you go wrong for a few extra mil to ink a potential star

No trade protection for years , its a fucken great move
 
If our best 4 forwards and top two dee can come in at 50 million we are in great shape.
 
How can you not love this kid? And Hugo. We really have to thank our lucky stars that we hired the right GM this time. It's been a looooooong time since players have had this kind of hunger to be Habs. Something a long succession of poor ownership decisions and even poorer management decisions had destroyed when we had the best foundation in that regard of any team, due to being the Montreal Canadiens.
