you want the Nordiques back which will only hurt our bottom line

Snoop is real, I see Reynolds and his life as fake as hell.
The Nordiques don't hurt the Habs bottom line that much. The purpose they serve is to provide the Habs with a reason not to take their foot off the gas and coast on their history, which is exactly what the Habs have done since the day the Nordiques left for Denver. Having the Nordiques around keeps the Habs from becoming complacent in a way that Ottawa, Boston and even the Leafs can't manage. We need the Nords as a foil.

Just move 'em to Houston or Kansas City for the beginning of 2025-2026 season and call it a day. Enough already.
The NHL would be insane to relocate a team to a city that it has plans to expand into one day. Expansion fees are exponentially higher than relocation fees. Do the expedient thing and move the Yotes to Quebec then soak Houston for all it's worth when you next expand.

I agree, but that's assuming that they're planning on expansion.

If they are, and they're shit out of luck with Arizona and they need to move the team? You can't put 'em in Houston unless they're the only viable place. You have to pick a place with an NHL ready arena and in a market that can make them money immediately. I think Kansas City fits the bill perfectly.

KC has an NHL arena ready ?

Yup. They built it over a decade ago and Luc Robitaille was one of the people involved in the project to get a team.

Never worked out, though.

The only logical reasons for moving to Houston today would be to immediately increase the revenues for the league and stop the bleeding in Arizona.

It would be insane to lose on the billion dollars for expansion fees, unless no one wants to pay them..

I think Seattle & Las Vegas are examples that the NHL could use to scream the need for expansion.

Both seem to be generating tons of money and they had immediate success. I would be shocked if they couldn't get another team or two through expansion.

Of course they're planning on expansion. The fees for the next round of expansion will be close to $1 billion and that is all money that doesn't have to be shared with the players. They want Houston but they want it because it's new money. The Yotes are existing money. They just need a place to go and they need to get where they're going by next fall when the season begins. Quebec is plug-n-play and it would never be considered for an expansion team because as a market it is viewed mostly as old or already existing money. The NHL will want to save the Houstons, KC's and Portland's for those sweet, sweet expansion fees.

But the Coyotes, like the Thrashers were, are just a problem in need of a quick and dirty solution. Ergo Quebec.

Nah. They stay somewhere in the West. Then there’s expansion in the West and Nashville and Chicago are moved into the East.

I don't think expanding is happening anytime soon. Probably at least a decade.
