Hockey Media & Business Thread

people are pussies now, hell Hockey Canada suspends you for calling players names on the ice
For sure. I played some hockey in NL as a teenager in the early seventies for Wayne Maxner, who a few years later made it to the show to coach the Red Wings. He was tough on us. They all were. How times have changed.

He did tell me I had soft hands though, at the same time he was bawling me out for something else. I am still getting mileage telling people that LOL. As close as I came.....

Coaches displaying abusive behavior towards a teen isnt the good old days, its bullshit.
Yeah, I guess there is a line. I saw a lot of yelling, tossing sticks at players, etc. from various coaches. Most of it I'm pretty sure was an act-they seemed to genuinely care for us. But was it abusive? Then? Now? That's the question. I would not classify what I saw as abuse. No doubt some of the stuff we're hearing about now may be different, some of it perhaps not. Different times.

It's like the universities/schools that are contemplating ending grades and exams as they are too stressful. Those students are in for a real shock when clients and bosses yell at them

Weak analogy. People deserve to be treated with respect in work environments. Screaming at a 17 year old and breaking the stick in his hand as a coach is pathetic. So is ending University grades.

I certainly agree with you about respect in the workplace. Remember those old time managers, and grade school teachers for that matter, who ruled by intimidation? I like to think we've progressed beyond that to some degree. As for coaching, I always did better with the more progressive kinder, gentler approach (most probably do). But I'll allow some leeway I guess, but only to a point, when some show of toughness is needed.

society has softened which is why we are a breakdown of western civilization. Dr. Saad opened my eyes.

Grades are not being ended. That’s absurd. Also, bosses who resort to yelling are shitty bosses. They’re usually incompetent.

ask yourself Coq, is it better to be loved, or feared?

You can also see how Canada has slid in world esteem over the last few years under a self-described male feminist. Our sherecovery has not done all that well. He has managed to piss of Biden, China, Israel, Italy etc. I voted for the bastard 3 times and regret the last one for sure.

Smart employees know they should fear library voice. The others… Darwin had a theory.
all businesses have issues but the one well known rule now is "first to HR wins". Doesn't matter the issue, if in doubt, go to HR first. Hell I know someone in another firm who was called into HR because another employee felt bullied as the first person did not say Hi to her in the hallway. Second one ran to HR and boom, shit hits the fan.

I like to think I am a good boss, I have had the same main paralegal for 11+ years and we get along fabulously so I am not a yeller/bad boss but damn what I see some complain about, I just shake my head. FFS, grow a pair.
