Hockey Media & Business Thread

I think there's a little bit of both: Children in the new generations are almost always more coddled today than their parents' generation when they were kids, who were much more coddled in their day than their parents, and so on & so forth. I don't think they're "weaker", but I do think they've not been challenged enough in their lives.

I do also think, however, that being a complete dipshit to others in the workplace is less and less tolerated, which is a good thing. It's one thing to be demanding and tough, it's another if you're just a fucking asshole and trying to intimidate your employees.

Coaches, especially head coaches in the top Junior leagues, hold those kids' careers in their hands. You could have a coach that plays you a lot or straight up benches you just because he doesn't like you. Player gets a lot of ice time, could get drafted high, but if he doesn't, he might end up going late in the draft, or maybe even undrafted.

There's an element of power that gets abused by some of these guys. You have four recent examples: Those two dopes in the WHL, Bill Peters and Mike Babcock. I'm glad those cretins have basically lost their careers, minus Bill Peters's recent return to the WHL.
I mean... The broncos of all teams should not be putting up with anything.

Bill Peters is the Lethbridge Hurricanes coach now.

It is just different. Which is to be expected as society advances and knowledge improves.

Eg. Playground bullying vs cyber bullying.

Random thoughts...

I've still never seen this no score thing in real life.

As society better understands the brain it makes sense that things change as well.

Plante was so coddled they let him wear a mask. :p

For the workplace I find the older folks have entitlement as if what they did 10 years ago matters today. When I first entered the workforce there were ppl that needed someone to print their emails for them. Now I'm the guy lost when new tech comes in.

I'm also the guy that told my coach off in peewee and never played minor hockey again. Took me about 25 years to play organized ice hockey again.

something something, innocent until proven guilty, something something
Actually I don't care what happens to him in criminal court. The victim can always sue him in civil court like the Goldmans did to OJ. The important thing is that he never be eligible to play NHL hockey again (although his mediocre talent seems to have taken care of that problem already)

she has already been paid, can't sue twice

Well then all that needs to happen is for the players responsible to be outed and canceled. Let em pump gas in East Bumblefuck or wherever they're from. They can spend their Saturday nights getting shitfaced at the Legion and talking about their glory days.

not sure why you are so angrily invested in this, guilty or not is no skin off your nose

guilt or innocence be damned...
Please. They're guilty. If they were innocent there'd be no reason for Hockey Canada to try and cover it up. We know it happened and that it's probably happened to one extent or another, every year. These are just the first ones who were dumb enough to get caught.

In any event I fail to see why tax money needs to be spent on Hockey Canada and its bureaucracy. It serves no useful purpose. Let Team Canada's juniors be funded privately.
