Hockey Media & Business Thread

Even if innocent media BS might too much for a team
It'll be too much for any team. This isn't Mailloux who made a mistake during consensual sex. This is gang rape. No player who's name is associated with this incident is ever playing in the NHL again. They are toxic waste now.

my tax dollars for shit I don't like, as you would say, it's your requirement under nobless oblige
You need to pay your fair share of taxes. The more you make, the more you pay. But we ain't talking about funding hospitals and schools. All Hockey Canada seems to be good at is creating a self-perpetuating bureaucracy and collecting fees for doing nothing. Hockey is not an essential service. Besides which, we already have a federal department of fitness and amateur sport as well as provincial departments which overlap it. Hockey Canada isn't a necessary thing. It doesn't do anything that a government department subject to public oversight couldn't do. It needs to either fund itself or go away. It does not need and should not get any tax money from the public.

I was referring to billions for the losing war in Ukraine, paying for anti-islamophobia czar, and many of the civil servants who do nothing

They aren't losing the war in Ukraine, and you'd better pray they don't. Because if the Ukies don't defeat the Russkies there, Count Junior will be conscripted to fight them somewhere else.

Either he will stay in school forever or I will give him enough $$ to desert like Jack Todd.. He ain't dying for Artemvosk or Kharkov.

Sort of OT, but related to Montreal sports:

The provincial government agreed to give out $860M for the Olympic Stadium to fix the roof.

Positively infuriating and nauseating.

true story, Contessa and I were out driving and saw a guy's house that needed a new roof. I mentioned how expensive it would be to fix, I said about 25000, pocket change for Plante and Legault ;)

And these fucking thieves have been doing the media tours trying to justify their spending.

Hard to describe how infuriating the provincial government has been over the last few months.

a lot of governments suffer from hubris after the way 90% of people bent over and said thank you in March 2020. Govts wete reelected despite what they did to us so they think they still can.

And there are people - with actual brains that appear to be functional! - that support the government's decision because the Olympic Stadium is "a big part of what makes Montreal, Montreal."

Bull-fucking-shit. It's an empty, barely utilized cement bowl that takes up way too much space in an early incredibly dense city.

Over the years, I've noticed something. Businesses (or sports franchises, since this is a hockey board) that are successful usually don't try to justify their mistakes by doubling or tripling down. They'll quietly admit they made a mistake & cut bait. The bad businesses are the ones who double down on their mistakes because they want to justify their actions instead of doing the right thing.

The lady said, well, can't demolish it because it'll cost $2B! Wouldn't want that now, would we? and you know what? Even if it cost $5B, I'd be all for it. Tear it down and use the empty land for the new, state of the art, multi-purposed stadium and bring some real life into the Eastern part of Montreal.

Instead, we have these clowns pissing in the wind and telling us it's raining.

They were reelected because people accepted that it was the right thing to do. White grievance wasn't enough to swing the outcome.

The Leafs have been doubling down for 8 years now. You'd almost think they were a government ministry.

However much it costs to dismantle the Big O its money that you only need to spend once. Fixing the roof means having to pay to fix it again in 20 years (or sooner).
