You sign him in a heartbeat at 5 mil, stop being ridiculous he's an elite defensive c with 40-50 points a year. Not overpaying a 3C , dude will want 5 mil …...C YU LATER
How much are we willing to give him?

Cap isn't an issue for us at the moment, you sign him and you trade him later if needed. 5M is a bit high IMO but 4-4.5M seems fair to me.
Danault has been improving every single season since he joined the Montreal Canadiens.
Underrated again and again. This is not his final form, he will keep getting better.
Of course he is an "excellent 3rd C" or "the ideal 3rd C", because he is way too good to be a 3rd C.
Danault was easily a Top 60 centre in the NHL last season, and by definition, that makes him a 2nd line centre regardless of were you want to slot him.
Well I think you're undervaluing him or overvaluing 5 millions in a 80 millions cap league. Honestly if the choice is 6 millions or let him walk, I pay him. We're a middling team the way we're going to beat the top teams is by shutting down the Matthews, Stamkos and Crosbys, very few centers do it better than Danault. He is a good player , but we need KK and Nick to take over …….pass the torch
Perfect 3C , 4-4.5 like GW suggests is fine …… his role is a 3C defensive specialist
He will be nearly 29 when his next deal kicks in
We will have too many vets in decline on this team , and we are still a bubble team
I believe they need scoring wingers nowSuzuki-Kotkaniemi-Danault for the next five years.
What’s the debate again?
They need to tear it all down and rebuild like the LeafsSuzuki-Kotkaniemi-Danault for the next five years.

I have high hopes for Caufield. Maybe they'll trade Domi to make room for him and get help on D.
Domi is leaving Montreal. It took the coach having a heart operation to get him off the fourth line.
