It's been a long four years, the return of the magic number thread

Nothing in Marner's past behavior in negotiations (or that of his father/agent) should lead anyone to the conclusion that he will sign a team-friendly deal without testing the market. They'll grind the Leafs for every penny more they can get so the only way he stays if if the Leafs blow their brains out to keep him. Failing that, he gone. No hometown discounts.

The days of discounts are over for stars , NHL was the last league to give back but it was long overdue

Leafs and Marner playoff success or failure will not result in a nickel less

That's the beauty of it all for me.

The Leafs will never win with Marner but they're too chickenshit to live without him so they will commit insane money to him with an 8 year term which will hamstring them when they want to do other things that actually might help them win.
