It's been a long four years, the return of the magic number thread

Update

Down to 7 v Rangers and Red Wings.

6 v Islanders

4 v Columbus (basically eliminated as they need to win four more Regulation games in 6 games than we do in 5.

If we win just two of our last five, we should get in.

Need Tampa win tomorrow. We beat Wings in reg on Tuesday, they are all but done.

So close

Are you happy Count , Habs making the playoffs

You were soiling your shorts about how long it would take , its a year earlier than expected

If you have the right regime and no BANDAIDS it doesnt have to be a decade long Buffalo shit show
You claimed 3 more yrs was fine.....

It was, is, and would still be fine, but it's also fine if it happens sooner so long as it happens organically (i.e. they don't blow their brains out and swap the future for present-day band-aids) This playoff run has happened organically. HuGo didn't make any regrettable deadline deals or mortgage future success to make it happen.

But merely making the playoffs does not mean that the rebuild is over. The goal is to win Cups, not merely squeak into 8th place. To get over that hurdle will take more work. More deadwood needs to move, and more young guns need to pan out. But for now, we can all enjoy the ride secure in the knowledge that the rebuild has not been abandoned simply because we were fortunate enough to enjoy a bit of premature success.

You have to accept a cup for a Canadian baaed team other than the Leafs is a pipedream. You got your fill already. If my son is fortunate, he will see one in his lifetime.

How many years do the Leafs have to implode for you to "accept" that they will never win a Cup with their current core? If losing to us in 2021 after we spotted them a 3-1 series lead didn't convince you that they are a fraud, I don't know what will. If they draw the Sens in the first round they are done like dinner. We have a better chance of upsetting the Caps than they do of beating Ottawa.

Sooner or later you will be wrong and your meltdown will be epic
Not as long as they keep running it back with the same core four, I won't. At least one (16) and perhaps more (91 or 88) need to go before they have any hope of advancing. 34 is the only one worth keeping at all costs. The other can and should be replaced, starting with 16.

I thought you loved Nylander too

In any event, there is no reason they don't get to semi-finals this year. When you are banned from Leaf board, it will be for the whole board and I suspect you won't get back on so you should tread carefully.

There's never any reason for them not to get to the semi-finals yet they still always find a reason not to get there. And if they get to the semi's and lose? It's still a failure. Anything short of a championship has to be considered a failure when you're spending the kind of money the Leafs are on that core.

And yes, I like Nylander. I'd have him on my team before Marner or Tavares. But because he's Swedish, Leafs fans will never prefer him over Marner or Tavares. He's always had to suck hind teat to the other 3 guys. So my expectation is that if and when they finally accept reality and move on from this core, the first domino to fall will be 88 when it actually should be 16.
