Well not really. According to that it is by conference where wildcard teams are concerned.

In this year's case, the team that finishes 8th and plays the Capitals will be in the Metropolitan bracket.

The last two year's actually worked out so it was four Atlantic and four Metropolitan in their actual divisions and as we sit right now, it's set to be the same way with Ottawa as WC1 and Rangers as WC2 but go back to 2022.
