Chris Peters thinks the reason that Ottawa and Calgary passed on Buium and picked who they did is because they’ve skittish about drafting American kids who might not want to commit long-term to smaller Canadian markets. Of course, and on the other hand, Parekh and Yakemchuck are both right D . . . and Buium is not.
 
Both teams have been burned in the past, so I can't blame them too much if that was the case. Maybe they got some indications that this might be the case from interview. Plus NCAA players have all the leverage, unlike CHL kids.

Ottawa inked Sanderson

Yakemchuk needs time and work but his ceiling is a 1D , built like a tank .

I would off drafted Dickinson who right now has fewer question marks

Nobody that I have read thinks his ceiling is a 1D. In fact, there’s some doubt that he’s a top pairing D.

And Sanderson’s father, Geoff, is Canadian. That obviously helps.

That's the most refreshing thing about him. A pundit who is willing to state his case, buttressed with facts, and who is also willing to own his mistakes rather than trying to rationalize them or deny them outright like McCagg.
