Josh Anderson signs 7 x $5.5m

John Tortorella wants Blue Jackets to open up on offense with new look at center

“Josh liked it here and the guys liked it too. There was a nice thing going on with him.“
“This happens with all teams. But losing him - I'm not going to say it's going to bury this hockey team. I'm not going to say that.”
“You know what I think of Josh. I only wish him the best.”
“He can be one hell of a hockey player...”

The only tier that Gally is above TT is the hype machine

There is no way a sane GM take his contact over TT

40% more salary for similar production and 2 years less …….please
Maybe you missed this post by HP but the more you open your mouth the more you look like a mouth breather with an agenda.

Toffoli never came close to these numbers. While he's a solid player, he is not Gallagher.

so you switched it up from anderson to toffoli?

Important variable IMO not being taken into account in your analysis: Toffoli has had the opportunity to play with higher end talent than Gallagher - especially on the PP during Kings heyday (Doughty & Kopitar for starters), and with Van last season.

Looking at the stats without context shows similar players, but context changes that equation considerably...
similar production - though gally scores more and drives the play more

I will take a 28 year old whose contract runs to 32 and can score 25-30 any day of the week over a 29 year old whose contract runs to 35 and plays an abrasive game and wont age well

This is Price , " we cant trade that player " syndrome

I will take a Suzuki trade 7 days a week ….. Nero`s phone would of exploded with the offers

anderson is the only contract i could see looking bad next year

gallagher has at least 4 good years
toffoli should be good for the entire contract

Your hot takes are worse than LoF's and that takes talent.

response a) you know toffoli has never ever scored between 25-30 goals right? :p

response b) you know he has only score more than 25+ goals once...right?

I would bet Gally breaks down 2 years into the contract , that's not a bargain deal at all

A small breakdown is an albatross deal , this isn't Sid going from 100 to 75 points and still be a front liner

Toffoli is a bargain , same age and caliber of player .

There is no upside on a 40% increase in pay with Gally
You didn't ask about Gally vs Toffoli. You asked about Gally vs Anderson. And Toffoli is a fine player, but he's really not close to the caliber player that Gallagher is.

I'm fine with the Anderson deal. I don't think it was a particularly good signing... but I like the player, I like the potential... let's hope he can stay healthy and improve on his best seasons.

Gallagher has been remarkably consistent and shown absolutely no signs of breaking down. You bet that he breaks down in 2 years... but that's a hunch. You have zero reason other than his height. I have soon no evidence that shorter players break down faster than players who are 6'3. In fact, it seems to me that bigger players tend to break down earlier. I have no proof of that but it's my perception.

There have been numerous "small" players who player a feisty game that are effective well into their 30s. Marchand is still putting up "career" years into his 30s. He's about to be 33 and he just had another great year.

I actually think Gallagher will be fine because of his sheer determination and drive. Tell him he will be worse and he'll work twice as hard to prove you wrong. Very rare in today's NHL.

i could see it
like markov his game never revolved around speed

but i do see him having more and more nagging injuries that reduce his effectiveness

i do not expect him to fall off a cliff but being a 20 goal guy instead of a 30 goal guy is probably going to happy in 4 years
