Juraj Slafkovsky, Montreal Canadien

According to The Athletic, Habs went with the potential HR (which I'm ok with as a fan)

In Slafkovsky, the Montreal Canadiens get the best player in the 2022 NHL Draft, and the player with the best chance to become a star. He showed this due to his unique skill set, being a high-end athlete with high-end offensive skills and showing unique flashes of elite play this season even if it wasn’t consistent. He becomes a key part of their rebuild, with at least a chance to become a 40 goal/40 assist winger in his prime.

Slafkovsky has all the assets you’re looking for in a top NHL forward. He’s a 6-foot-4 winger who can beat opponents with speed and skill. He posseses outstanding puck skills, and can put pucks through legs and sticks at a very high rate. Slafkovsky can use finesse, or power and quickness to get around defenders. Slafkovsky can also set up and finish plays well. Physically, he won’t run over guys but his compete is good enough. He projects as a top-line winger with the potential to pop and become be a true star in the NHL.
Yeah but Brad . . .

I don’t feel good about this pick but what do I know that already hasn’t been said. They have access to info we don’t, hopefully it’s good info.

Tank next year, get Bedard, all is right in Habs world.

I would have taken Wright. This move tells me they don't want to win next year which is fine but dang.

The other thought is they know they'll be bad and flashy Slafkovsky will at least entertain the fans.

Watch Allen get traded tomorrow. The key to the tank is in the crease.

it doesn't say that at all...this move says they care more about long term ceiling than floor...and they also agree with a bunch of scouts who think Wright is nice but lacks the wow factor.

Looks like they felt that Dach, even though a disappointment 3-years into his NHL career, has a higher ceiling than Wright

Dach seems to have been rushed, and has faced injuries….it’s quite possible that MSL had the last vote regarding Dach, thinking he can turn his young career around

If Wright was picked 2nd I would have questioned the pick more but he fell to 4th, after Cooley, which speaks volumes on how he was perceived this season. We’ll see how that one turns out.

Dach was a very highly touted prospect in his draft year. Hopefully Chicago didn't fuck him up too badly for the new team to fix. Gotta love his size and he's 3 years ahead of Shane.

Circumstances, Devils didnt need another centre. Coyotes need a flashier player to excite the fans.

But Habs had a back-up plan to get a centre. Arizona needs dynamic offensive players,
If Wright can’t be a dynamic offensive player then he deserves to fall. Regardless, my Kraken got him, he should do well there with their dynamic less offense.

Yup - this tells me HuGo feel Dach has as much or more upside than Wright.
