It’s a handful, but the Canadiens got the player with the highest upside here, and the draft capital needed to acquire him wasn’t all that steep. Dach hasn’t shown nearly as much as many expected yet, but at 21 he’s still young and still has top-six upside. He’s not that yet and could very well bust, but one of his top comparables at the same age is Sean Couturier, an extremely promising proposition for the Canadiens. Dach has other less enticing comparables that bring pause but considering his pedigree he’s a smart bet.
For the other two teams involved – I have questions.
The Islanders essentially traded a first-round pick for Romanov, a player whose stock has plummeted after a horrific sophomore season. He’s shown less than nothing at the NHL level to be worth that price tag and it feels like Montreal is taking advantage of his previously high pedigree. While Romanov has some intriguing comparables of his own, none has the upside of Couturier and most became busts. I’m a skeptic, especially at that price tag.
The Blackhawks … I mean, woof. I could at least see why the team would trade Alex DeBrincat – they needed to get bad enough to tank, the qualifying offer, being two years away from free agency, and his age. Dach? How do you not keep a 21-year-old center with size drafted just three years ago? For 13th? It’s bad asset management, an all too common trend for the Blackhawks on draft day these days.

When the lottery commenced ahead of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, the Chicago Blackhawks had a 3.0% chance to select within the top three picks. Fortune seemed on Chicago’s side when they, the New Jersey Devils and the New York Rangers were announced to be the teams to selected in the top three.

They won’t draft one single Russian. That I can guarantee. Especially after Romanov dealt. I bet Molson wants nothing to do with the Russia fiasco especially after Mailloux
Not a bust yet because he's 21 but CHI is trying to do a semi rebuild now and the fact they traded him away tells you something. My friend is a huge BlackHawks fan and says he's a 3rd/4th liner max and loves the fact they just got Frank Nazar. Not really impressed with HuGo.

Go read the blackhawk forums, they love they flipped Dach for Nazar.
You couldn’t know that Nazar would be there at 13.

How many of them have actually watched Nazar, let alone have scouting credentials?
i still recall many posters losing their marbles about not drafting Grigorenko back in 2012
