Leaf Rumours

This is not a rumour, but I'm curious what others here would think about acquiring my nephew Ben Eager.

If you ask me, he's a Burke type player and has reasonably good offensive upside still to be a very useful 3rd/2nd line winger.

I'd definitely be in on that. I don't think he has any real 2nd line upside, but he could turn into a very nice and very physical 3rd line winger. Actually, he might be one already on a team where he could get more than 4th line minutes.

yeah it sure would be nice to have a big kid who can skate, hit, fight and who goes to the net.

Eager would be a fantastic pick-up. Toronto boy with a linebacker's frame, an infectious competitiveness, great teammate, pop a few goals, and fight with the best of them? Yes please.

This is great to hear. I think pretty much exactly as you guys do, but I didn't know if that was familial bias creeping in or what.

I suspect that he'll really flourish with a bit more ice time - 3rd line instead of 4th. He's showing signs of a later blooming powerforward as well. There could be some untapped offensive potential there.

I've always liked the idea of having a big, tough, fast skating guy up on the top lines to keep the opposition honest and open the ice up for the skilled guys. Ben has the potential to fit that bill. At worst, we're looking at a very good young third liner that uses his frame very well.

from the other board:

George Richards, the Panthers best beat writer, just twitted that the Panthers' Sexton is working on as many as 9 deals right now.

Horton and Weiss are both injured, Nate for a month, and we just got Booth back. Lots of guys, though, aren't playing all that well of late.

I don't want to speculate as to who's available and who's not, but I do know Booth is not and Sexton said Vokoun won't be moved this season. Nate and Weiss likely aren't available, and neither is Kulikov or Frolik. Not sure on the prospects, depends on what's coming back.

Everyone else very well could be, though, Sexton said they'd like to bring back Leopold and Seidenberg next season.

How do we get our hands on Horton?

After dealing Hagman, who I think could have been a major cog in landing Horton (organizational familiarity, plays a needed position, cheap production)...I don't know if we have the tools to do it with going nuclear (Kaberle, Kadri, Schenn, etc)

So to answer your question, unless Horton wants out (which has been rumoured) and applies some pressure from his end, I just don't think it's going to happen.

Yeah, outside of kaberle or dealing a youngster the Leafs don't have the pieces to get a deal done.

they're in no position to start shedding youth like kadri or schenn. and horton just isn't good enough to make it worthwhile giving up Kaberle.

(for a little bit of context... since horton entered the league in 03-04 he has 284 points in 408 games.. since that time kaberle has played in 425 games and has 285 points...)

I want Steve Downie. He's a shit disturber, with legit 2nd line potential.

He's a RFA this offseason. If the Leafs can somehow get back their 2nd rounder from Boston (maybe for Poni), the Leafs can threaten an offer in the 3 mill a year range. With a change in ownership, TB may not want to pay.

horton and a 2nd for kaberle. done.

why?

i don't even know if i'd do horton and a first.

horton and a 25% chance of grabbing a player who ever becomes an nhl regular for kaberle?

if kaberle for horton is a bad trade for toronto then so is kaberel for horton and a second rounder.

I wanted Downie back when he was being given away for free.

mental case, but the kid can play.

i repeat....

since horton entered the league in 03-04 he has 284 points in 408 games.. since that time kaberle has played in 425 games and has 285 points
