Leaf Rumours

VL has a NTC, and I suspect TO is not on his short lists of places to be traded to. I also don't think money alone will trigger a deal like that, you woul dhave to send a pile of good players and picks back for that guy .... two things, which we have little of

I doubt Vinny would block a trade to Toronto. I'd actually be very surprised if he did.

TB's been rumoured to be very interested in Schenn. The Leafs can make a good offer. And there aren't many teams that can absorb that contract anyways.

I wonder if Schenn, Hagman, Grabovski would be in the ballpark.

That's sorta comparable to the Thornton deal. Except that Thornton was younger, had a better contract, and better production.

What can the Lightning expect to get for Vinny at this point with his contract?

they'll get something good.

montreal gave up a good defensive prospect (which they could use right now) and a forward who has proven he can pop 20-25 goals (though he seems to kind of suck now) for gomez, who is making almost as much money as lecavalier and isn't remotely as talented.

can the leafs put together a competitive offer for him? yeah, i'd say.

is it the right move? maybe -- i'm just not sure about lecavalier, to be honest. this guy is really, really talented but he seems to lack the determination to be as consistent as you would ideally want an $8mn player to be.

that said, he would be an awesome running mate for kessel, and would immediately give the leafs one of the best 1-2 punches in the league.

Given the situation TB's in -- trying to make the playoffs and trying to sell tickets -- I doubt they're looking for draft picks. They'd be looking for players that can contribute right now. And if that's the case, the Leafs have players at the NHL level or on the cusp of the NHL level that may interested them.

He's still a 90 point threat in any given year whose in the prime of his career. Even with his rather large deal, I think it will take a top young player + one or two established players for TB to bite. What Montana suggested is probably in the ballpark.

I'd go for it. Vinny needs a change of scenery, and pairing him up with Kessel would be absolutely deadly.

But I think the original offer posted above is too much for $8M Vinny.

I'd do

Schenn
Tlusty
Grabovski
Fodder (e.g., Mayers or some low level prospect or pick)

for

Vinny

I'd have no problem giving up Tlusty for Lecavailer.

The thing about it, is if they were actually going to trade him the Leafs would probably be the best fit, because they love Schenn.

Nah. Hockey people aren't as reactionary as fans.

If anything it would be an excuse to go get a guy you like as his team might be down on him form the time when they wouldn't even consider moving him.

If you're trading for a guy like Vinny, you gotta be willing to give something up.

that depends on what tampa's looking to do in a prospective lecavalier trade.

really, they need two blueliners and a handful of second and third liners.

given that there is probably some urgency there to compete, make the playoffs and bring in some much needed revenues they might be more keen on a proven commodity who can step into the lineup and contribute immediately like hagman, than a prospect with question marks like tlusty.

Trade him for what? .... a second round pick? why bother?

Thats what i mean, trade him if the price is right.

Otherwise there is no point in trading an effective player on a decent contract for a pick that in all likelihood will not be as good as Hagman.

And no Vinnie is not what this team needs. We need our own Stamkos. A player to grow with kessel, Schenn, and Gustavsson. No need to help the lightning in shedding that salary, let another team like the Habs shackle themselves.
