Leaf Rumours

I think the leafs have to focus on the 4 things they said they wanted to do... 1 goalie insurance (check) 2. a Centre if possible (Vinny would be perfection) 3. a top 4 strong defenseman (Colbourne??) 4. Toughness on the wings. (Clarkson/Clutterbuck/Horton??)

And then they're a serious cup contender.

Tubby you have some serious anger issues. I think Crosby is finished was a smart opener for you, as it is the only statement of all those that I actually can be said to have uttered. Wow, if this was my forum, you wouldn't have the password. And you aren't even a Leaf fan, you're a Chicago fan, why haunt this place with your weirdness?

And in terms of suddenly trading Phaneuf, Nonis didn't trade him at the top last year. Now he is trying to peddle a guy the whole league witnessed just stand beside Chara at the critical juncture of the game and increase the screening of Reimer without doing much of anything to Chara himself.

The NHL is a funny league, much like the stock market, would you want to buy a stock at 6.5 million dollars that wears a "C" and get a guy who just decides to fantasize about golf courses with minutes left in a game seven?

These players, to the owners, are much like stocks and bonds, going from great value, to suddenly becoming junk bonds. In the case of Phaneuf, they may have to have him around next year, and try to coax some great value out of him and trade him at the deadline if they want pieces for a guy who is going to be a free agent, or just keep him for our playoff run.

Look at the case of MacArthur, a player of great value and interest to most of us a year ago, he had a really languid regular season, and a fairly solid playoff, but because of that poor regular season, he seems to be almost forgotten by both MLSE and this board.
Man...learn how to use commas.

I'm becoming more content with the Bernier trade now. I like the tandem we have in nets. Young and cheap and lots of improvement possibilities. The price for Bernier wasn't that bad at all.

Makes more sense than Edmonton having a good young goalie who had a great year and wanting to add Schneider.

Edmonton should definitely be a target for us right now. Their GM seems desperate to make some sort of move and seemingly lacks hockey intelligence based on some of the bizarre comments he has made since taking over. That 7th pick and some of their better youngsters could very well be in play, and they lack depth on the backend.

Perfect trade partner for us, IMO.

I know this has been reported a lot but it definitely looks like Clarkson will be a Leaf; spoke to my guy but no numbers are rumoured; what do you guys think a fair price would be for a guy like Clarkson? Remember Horton is asking around $6 million and Clowe will get at least $5 million

Brayden Coburn is going to cost a ton.

you also have to ask yourself why, Philly, a team that really needs D, is moving an apparent great one.

If the leafs could live with Grabovski's contract, couldn't they just offer 5.5 for 4 years (or whatever Grabs contract is) and then just buy Grabs out...so it;s the same contract for a better centre.

Lebrun posted the Vinny will let teams now of the shortlist before the draft. Lebrun had said that at least 15 teams have made their offers and that Vinny is actually wanting a bit of a long term deal (4-5 year deal).

It comes down to if Vinny wants to be a number 1 centre or number 2?? and if he wants the spot light and winters.

This deal is actually exciting, I think Vinny actually has something left... I think he got lazy and didn't take it too well that Stamkos has come out as the replacement. We'll see.

The Leafs have been talking to Vinny's agent. No surprise there.

Vinny would be a MASSIVE signing for us and best centre since Sundin; him and Kessel would be dynamite on the first line. Nonis has to do whatever it takes to get it done, within reason of course.

Without that horrific contract I'm big on the thought of Vinny on the Leafs.

I think Vinny to the Leafs will never happen. He'd lose all his endorsement deals in Quebec, guaranteed. He'd also lose the ridiculous love the French press has for him and would get absolutely roasted should he choose the Leafs over the Habs.

It is because of these types of issues that I fully expect him to remain in the States and not sign in Canada at all. Possibly Washington to replace Ribeiro.

Yea i agree with this. As much as i would like to see Lecavalier come to Toronto, i just dont see it happening.

It's a shame, because he's an absolutely perfect solution to both our #1 center problem and the issue we have with having too little size down the middle.

Joffrey Lupul - Vincent Lecavalier - Phil Kessel
James van Riemsdyk - Nazem Kadri - David Clarkson (because it seems inevitable)

...would also be the best top two lines we've had for a very long time. Won't hold my breath though. It just seems very unlikely that a Montreal boy who's spent his entire NHL career in the sunbelt would choose to come to Toronto, of all places. If he doesn't come here, I hope that he at least goes to someone outside of our division.

Funny how Teeds watched the final 10 minutes of game 7 and sees the only issue was Phaneuf. I saw an entire choke job by everyone on the team. (Including the coach, no time-out, really?)

And Dion is not a penny overpaid.

Everyone including Tan a bum, loves a scapegoat, and he has two, Reimer and Phaneuf. Fair? Who knows, the whole team the coaching staff laid off attacking and went into a full on paralysis, so yeah, you are right. But people love to throw specific blame.

Clarkson to Leafs is DUNNN.
