Leaf Rumours

Holzer really killed them first half being paired up with Phaneuf. Kostka struggled there too.

Gardiner replacing them is a huge difference right there. But yeah could still use a Fraser replacement.

If Leafs' Brass blamed our shootout woes on our goalie, and got Bernier as a solution....then they are utter morons.

Reimer was outplayed by Rask, and you know what. That is the ONLY thing that really counts. Outplayed.

how did the Leafs get to game 7 OT if Reimer got significantly outplayed by Rask?

are you saying the rest of the Leafs were that much better than the Bruins?

Or a new coach.

but replacing Holzer/Kostka/Fraser/O'Byrne with Gardiner/Liles should be a pretty massive upgrade, anyways.

I think Liles is a goner, but Gardiner is definitely a huge upgrade on those 4 stiffs.

you hate Carlyle now too? when did this happen?

I don't think Rask looked all that great in the Toronto series. Yeah, he made some brilliant saves, but Toronto didn't seem to have an issue scoring against him. What was noticeable was his rebound control is vastly superior to Reimer.

As for Carlyle, yeah he's not perfect (what coach is?), but I think it's pretty safe to say he's the best this team has had since Quinn.

I have zero doubts about Reimer's ability to continue being an average-plus starter, but I question whether Scrivens is anything more than a replacement level goaltender, yes.

The AHL's consistent historical tendency to inflate numbers of mediocre goaltenders and his lack of mobility and poor lateral movement combine to make me think that he won't have a lengthy NHL career. Goaltending is the one position where one cannot solely judge future performance by numbers.

I prefer results over style.

We had Rask. We came back from a 3-1 series to almost beat him if not for two bullshit goals in the last minute.

**** him. We pissed on him when it counted. Problem was, they pissed on Reimer in that last minute.

Gilbert would be a great pick up for just money. Here's hoping that he wants to be less of a focal point on D. Good size good mobility good depth and a right handed shot

Number one target for the Leafs is Nathan Horton, but then again, he is the number one target for a lot of teams. Clarkson cannot be happy he has been put aside till we saw what we could do with Lecavellier and Horton. Hope we still get him.

I actually like Gilbert. He was overpaid at $4m but if we can get him for $2m that's a pretty sweet fit as a #4/5 guy - he's big, strong, mobile, skilled, and blocks plenty of shots. Similar to Gunnarsson, though maybe with a bit better offensive touch. And he's a righty.

Gunnar - Phaneuf
Gardiner - Franson
Liles - Gilbert

Is very solid.

It's also unnecessary.

Our top four is awesome. Liles is overqualified for the third pairing. Our sixth should be a cheap kid who is ready for a role.

Whether Holzer, Blacker, Percy, Finn, or even Rielly, I'd let a kid take a spot than bring a vet to round out the corps.

I was told her has absolutely no interest playing in Canada; who knows though.

Nah, Gilbert is a good fit. Much more necessary than Liles. Liles is the one that would be replaced by a kid or cheap defensive vet.

Morgan is also a left handed shot, like Liles....and Gilbert would be an ideal pairing mate for him as he breaks in.
