Anyone else ALREADY tired of hearing Luke Schenn's name brought up every time anyone discusses what will happen with Morgan Rielly this season?
 
I love having not heard Luke Schenn's name once this pre-season.....such is the benefit of not watching a second of the tripe that is mainstream sports media. Still one of the smartest decisions I've made as a sports fan.

I have a hard enough time reading my twitter feed. Those are all professional mediots and not the mouth breathers who call in, that in itself is bad enough.

Kulemin, 27, has one season remaining on his contract at a cap hit of $2.8 million. Though an inconsistent scorer, he tallied 30 goals in 2010-11, which could make him attractive to clubs seeking an affordable scoring winger.

Shedding Kulemin's salary would provide the Leafs with nearly $4.79 million of cap space, more than enough to sign Franson and Raymond. It remains to be seen, however, if Kulemin hits the trade block.

For me, i'd be willing to bet Kulemin this year scores more goals than Clarkson.

I move other pieces before i move Kulemin, but with his contract coming up next offseason i would not be surprised to see him moved.
 
The Leafs won't dump Kulemin. He's cheap, big, strong, one of our best defensive forwards and has the potential to score 20+ goals. He's a more valuable player than Mason Raymond anyways, so dumping Kuly in part to make room for him would be asinine.

Its one thing for the Leafs to put the squeeze on him this year, buts its not really fair to expect him to take way below market value on a multi year deal just because they don't have cap space.

But Franson will probably cave eventually.
 
If Nonis gets Franson signed to a 2 yr 2 million a season deal and uses this season to assess Gardiner & Rielly....then turns around and trades Franson next summer, for a pile of something awesome because he's ridiculously cheap and very good for another season, he's handled what most of us considered a mess, fairly brilliantly.
 
Carlyle was talking about Kulemin yesterday, saying the media is too focused on how many goals he scored. He believes Kulemin CAN score 30G, but he's not a 30G scorer in his mind. He's a 15-20G scorer, who is big, strong, reliable defensively, wins puck battles, goes to the net, plays his role very well. He's a big part of this team according to Carlyle and he asks the media to stop looking only at how many goals he scored.

Seems like Carlyle's a fan and he's not going anywhere.
 
Kulemin faced the TOUGHEST competition of any forward in the league last year. As long as he's playing this kind of defensive role, with 2nd/3rd line calibre linemates, he isn't scoring 30 goals.

If he played on the top line, I think he could approach 25-30 goals again, but as of right now, he's more valuable to the Leafs in a checking role. And he should still be good for 15ish goals / 35-40 points.
