Leaf Rumours

imo you're overrating kane. he still hasn't shown much.

kadri's 44 points in 48 games last year would be the second highest point total of kane's career... .and he isn't on pace to best that by much this year. he also isn't scoring at a much higher pace than kadri is this year.

i don't think it is clear cut at all that kane is the better player.

I think a Kadri for Kane trade could make a lot of sense for both sides-

Us: Carlyle is insistent on playing a dump/chase heavy forechecking system, Kane is a big bodied guy who can be quite ornery out there and has good size.
Them: They are in bad need of a centre, Kadri has the talent to be at the very least a decent #2C guy, he would help the Jets out down the middle.

The leafs are in bad need of a Center.

And of all the words used to describe Evander Kane, you chose ornery?

When it's all said and done, Kane will have had a considerably better career than Naz.

If the Jets are stupid enough to move Kane, then every team in the league should inquire on him.

Frankly if Naz is really available i'd be pissed if Bowman wasn't doing what he could to get him.

Nope, haven't read it. To be honest, I haven't read much of Mirtle's stuff this year because of the way he geeks out with advanced stats, but I'll check it out.

Yeah, he can fetishize stats (though he does some up with some good ones).

yikes

Yikes indeed. Just goes to show how hard it is to get into a playoff spot once you're out of it if it took two months of that kind of play to get Toronto out of the playoffs.

At worst Kadri is just as talented as Kane and he is a center. I would never trade Kadri for Kane.

Last 2 years:
Kadri - 90 gp, 29 gls, 70 pts (82 gp, 26 gls, 64 pts)
Kane - 86 gp, 31 gls, 58 pts (82 gp, 30 gls, 55 pts)

To say Kane > Kadri and its not close is just wrong. Kadri has been > Kane and its not close.

Points are not the determining factor when it comes to the impact of a player.

As a hockey player overall, i would pick Kane. As a centre, i would pick Kadri.

they're pretty damn important. and it isn't a marginal edge for kadri. he has outproduced kane significantly since the start of last season.

not only that but i'm not sure what else kane has proven he can bring to hte table that gives him an edge. he has a similar reputation for his work in the d-zone. arguably, is known for bringing a less consistent effort than kadri. and he it isn't like kadri isn't known for beinga ble to mix it up physically, get in guys faces and throw his weight around a bit.

kane is sitll living on his draft day rep. he hasn't become the player thoguht he would. he still might, but then... kadri might as well.

Kane's a good young player. I'd gladly take him. But Kadri is just as good of a young player. And plays the more important position.

I know he has had a bad 10-15 games, but lets not underrate Kadri here. You don't trade that guy unless its for a top line center. Especially this team.

I'm as big a Kane fan as there is but it's troubling how he's stagnated - even as his minutes and PP time have gone up to elite levels.

His best season was actually 3yrs ago.

He's never had as good a year as Naz had last year:

and even this year is on par with what Kane usuall does:
