I'd consider it though if they were sending some first rd picks along with him...lol and taking blake and finger.
 
Thing is, I'd rather take the chance of waiting until next year to make that move and try to get Marleau this off season (or worst case, try to go short term on Jokinen).

I'd especially like to see where the economy is taking the cap number before I made a move on Vinny...the worst isn't over in the US economy yet imo, but if this shit show of a year doesn't negatively impact the cap, I'd feel a lot safer going after an albatross contract like Vinny's.

Vinny isn't going to be much, or any more expensive to land in the summer after we fail to get Marleau than he is right now before we've even had a chance to explore that option.

I'd be cool with going up to 7....I don't know if elite Vinny is ever coming back, and 7x7 for Marleau is better than having Vinny until he's 40.
 
You'd be paying Marleau until he's pretty old too though -- 37 or 38 depending on how long the deal is.

For me, I would still feel a lot more comfortable with Vinny as the Leafs #1 centre over Marleau, despite the contract issues. He's just a better talent imo.
 
It would depend on just how high the Marleau deal was going in negotations.

A 7 year deal would take Marleay up until the age of 37....and I'm more comfortable with that, than Vinny being able to milk us until he's 40.

Those are a pretty important 3 years. A lot of players maintain their effectiveness into their mid 30's....very few do it until 40.

Hell....if I couldn't land Marleau to something semi reasonable (less than 7 years, less than 7 million) I'd be more interested in going a different route...grabbing 1 of Whitney, Kariya, Kozlov short term...taking a run at Frolov, Bourque and grabbing Colby Armstrong instead.

and then running Kessel out there at centre.
 
Not all that surprised by this after listening to Burke on HockeyCentral the other day. He said Hanson had done some good things but he sounded underwhelmed.
 
Stalberg had a 4 game pointless streak shortly after being sent down, but he's been on a tear since and is probably the most deserving guy to be called back up...
 
Stalberg was looking like he'd be a big part of this team before he got knocked silly.

He could be a big addition.
 
Hanson was essentially useless during this callup. Would be nice if they called up Stalberg instead.

But in reality, they were probably just wowed by Rickard Wallin's accuracy in the Skills Competition.
 
Hanson has GOT to start meaning up. Way too nice a player out there. This guy is huge, and plays like a beautiful butterfly out there. He does some good things with the puck, but not good enough yet. Looks like the second coming of Ponikarovsky, another guy who is going to tease with the body, but possibly turn into a guy who scores twenty and assists on twenty five.
 
I think towards the end of his stinct with the Leafs Hanson started hitting ... which is a little too late. I agree with teeds - Hanson is WAY TOO NICE of a guy to play in the NHL, never mind in that power forward role. He's gotta get a mean streak of some sort inside him. He has the raw tools to at least be a good 3rd line checker, but he's gotta start using them.
 
God has a funny sense of humour. How can he take a Hanson progidy, stuff it into a body twice the size of his father and uncles, give it ten times the talent, and take out the mean streak? If Hanson had Kadri's meanness he would be on the first line and getting free rent from burke's love shack on the side.

It is just soooooo, frustrating to watch the guy. Burke must boil watching him. In person, he is a monster. His Dad and uncles were midgets YET they would take your eye out with a stick as easily as Tiger Woods would get a quick handjob in a golf tent.
