Leaf Rumours

L.A. IMO is the most logical destination for Ilya. Now that CHicago has come out and denied interest.

Kings have the assets, space, and money to resign.

Another rumor has the leafs interested in Cogliano out of Edmonton.

I also find it curious that no one has called the leafs for pending UFA's. I would expect this board to be fluttered with dissapointment when the likes of Stajan Ponikarovski and Stempniak recieve 4th round picks

Nah. Stajan and Poni would get interest at the deadline. No one else though.

Not sure those guys will even be moved though.

i could see ponikarovsky being traded for less on account of the softish-reputation the idiots in the toronto media have crowned him with. but stajan would definitely fetch a second like antropov and (more importantly) moore.

stempniak will get a 3rd or a 4th.

the only way they arent moved is if they are resigned.

And i think it makes more sense for Burke to deal them and get whatever assets he can ( considering how few picks he has) and try to replace that type of player in the offseason.

One thing in the leafs favor. Is that there might not be that many clear cut sellers considering the Blues and Jackets were supposed to be good, and outside of the Leafs Canes and Oilers. Everyone else is still in it.

Also in the Leafs favour is that they have a plethora of UFAs. Most contending teams aren't looking for long term pieces, because long term pieces usually cost more, and tie down dollars under the cap that they might not have beyond 2010.

Brind'amour is signed for another year, so he's pretty much out of the question. Rutherford has said he wants to re-sign Whitney and they are apparently negotiating. So that leaves Cullen, who will definitely net them a nice second round pick.

Carolina also has Walker Corvo and Wallin as UFA's the first 2 should fetch something.

and the dogshit oilers have pisani and comrie.....what a useless team

The Leafs UFA's (my guess at their trade deadline value):

Ponikarovski: 2nd rounder
Stajan: 2nd rounder
Stempniak: 2nd/3rd rounder
Primeau: 4th/5th rounder
Mayers: 4th/5th rounder
Exelby: 5th/6th rounder

Toskala: No Value
Wallin: No Value
Van Ryn: Injured/No Value

That looks about right to me except i'd say that it would probably be a stretch to get a 2nd for Stemp. Hey heres a question how about value on White and Kaberle?? Don't get me wrong love them both but sometimes you have to sell high....

I can't see for the life of me how Boston could possibly fit Kovy in as anything but a rental.

and I still see the Leafs being able to get more for Hagman and Grabo than for Poni and Stajan, because people are stupid.

and we could re-sign them for the same price as Hags and Grabs.

If Antropov nets a 2nd at last years deadline then Poni gets no more than a 3rd and Stajan no more than a 3rd or 4th.

Hagman and White have true value if they are moved.

And i find it hard to beleive that the rest of the league doesn't know how bad Grabovski is.

Speaking of Antropov ...Kovalchuk was held scoreless for 3 straight games for the first time this season. It also happened to be the first 3 games he missed Antropov on his line.

I wonder if the Leafs could swing a trade for Filatov or Jokinen. Both players would look good as Leafs next year and are not doing what is expected of them this year. Any thoughts?
