Leaf Rumours

I still like stalberg's future, but he's got some learning to do ... a LOT of it actually. I've seen glimpses of promises from him, plays that you'd expect from your top liners (or top 6). I've seen him make passes in pressured situations where only 2 other guys on this team can make. All those make me still very optimistic about his future.

But there's too much 'junk' between these moments. Too often he accepts to not be the best he can be, and not be a difference maker out there. Too often he settles for 'pretending' to contribute instead of REALLY contributing. Then there's also a fair share of bone head plays ... mostly from inexperience.

If he continues to play at that level on the 4th line, he's still no worse than Orr or Mayers, but it's impending his development, and I might as well get a REAL, pesky 4th liner to do that job while he develops in the minors.

Rosehill can be no worse than Mayers, Orr, Wallin, hagman when he pouts, poni when he floats, blake when he thinks he is gilbert perrault, or
Stralman was in his time up here or hanson.

He's doing the whole I'm perfectly fine staying in Atlanta just pay me what I'm worth routine, until he's UFA, and then he'll talk seriously with a bunch of teams and likely take less.

I watched a bit of the ATL-OTT game last night. The stands were empty. How can that city still have a team? I wouldn't blame Kovy for walking at all. I'm not saying that every superstar should want to play in Montreal or Toronto, but definitely a team that plays to 80%+ capacity on a nightly basis anyways.

It does seem like he's made the decision to try playing somewhere else. It would be such a blow to that franchise but ultimately I can't say that I blame him. He fulfilled the terms of his contract, and has the right to test free agency if he wants to.

The New Jersey Devils were previously rumored to be looking at Saku Koivu in hopes to boosting their club and not wasting their strong core of talent. But another name that has surfaced is Toronto Maple Leafs F Matt Stajan.

According to the New York Post, the Devils need someone to accompany top forwards Patrik Elias and Brian Rolston. Scott Niedermayer was also rumored to be heading to New Jersey, but the Ducks have said they will hold onto their captain.

The Leafs have been rumored to be shopping Stajan for a while now, but they will surely look for draft picks. Koivu and Teemu Selanne are both being shopped by the Ducks.

that would be hilarious if Matty instantly went from being an overrated bum in Toronto to a legit cup-winning 2nd line centre in New Jersey.

heck, he's just as good as their "1st line" centre .

There would only be one person to thank for that - his whip master, Ron Wilson.

Lil tidbit toronto and boston are not done ! Kaberle was supposed to be part of the deal ! Couldn't hammer it out as boston was concerned with kabs play last year ! Let's just say what was our 1st pick is being held for the time being ! Consider it a pawn shop trade !

Getting Kabs to play with Chara must be awfully tempting for Chiarelli. But Burke has said he isn't asking Kabs to waive the NT, which he'd have to do.

He also said he'd take a list of 10 teams if Kabby wants to control his future, because he can trade him in the offseason again.

He actually seemed less adamant about not wanting to move Kabby than in the past.

Not sure I buy that. If it was true, Kabs would've been traded at some point during the season - assuming Burke would go back on his word and ask him to waive the NTC.

And it's tough to picture it happening at this point. Yeah, he'd be a big help in Boston, but I think they need more help up front than on the back end at this point. If I were them, I'd be using those picks to pry Kovy out of Atlanta, not Kabs out of Toronto.

But it is a tough question. Our own 1st back for Kabs. I guess it depends on where we finish, but if it's right about where we are - 3rd overall with a chance at 1st - and we could get Hall.......ach, I'd have to do it.

After all, Kabs is signed for only one more year, is in his early 30s, and may well be re-signed once he goes UFA a season after trading him.

But if we did do that, I wouldn't be satisfied if it was for Fowler or even Seguin. If we trade Kabs for our pick back, it would have to be with the intention of trading up to get Hall (if we didn't land him in the lottery).

might have something to do with the play of white and gunner, making him more willing to move kabby.

My only question would be what kind of contract would they need to send back to make it work cap wise with them?

I think he said that if Kabs came and asked to go, he'd accept a list from him with no less than 10 teams. So that Kabs couldn't tie his hands and name just a couple of teams and agree to waive only for them.

Wouldn't be shocked.

I still would be.

If Kabs had had a good last season, would the deal have then been Kessel for Kabs, 2011 1st, and 2010 2nd?

That seems way too pricey. No one was expecting the 2010 1st to be potentially a top 3 pick. If it was like 15th or so, I don't think Kabs would've been a reasonable substitute.
