Leaf Rumours

Because since the pre-season he hasn't done anything but get rocked with his head down?

They didn't exactly give him a nice stretch of games last time he was up with the Leafs. Then they send him down and call up a plug like Rosehill? What kind of message does that send to a player you're supposed to be developing?

Remember McKenzie in the pre-season talking about Stalberg being a darkhorse Calder trophy winner?

haha. Oh bob, sometimes you're just another spectator.

If there's one thing about Stalberg it's that he's VERY raw. His offence could take years to properly develop. In the meantime he's going to be a major long-term project. The rewards could be good or he could end up being just a dime-a-dozen third-liner, but his other skills will ensure a long NHL career in any instance.

All you Stalberg fans. This guy for the first two steps is a pondering donkey. Any NHLer worth his weight in cheap sidewalk salt can stop the guy. Heck, I could nail him cold all night and I am codged. He has got a lot to learn, let him nail thirty goals for fawks sakes in the AHL. He is a tease at this point, nothing more.

Any criticism of Stalberg without referencing two major injuries in his rookie season is disingenuous.

Stalberg destroyed the preseason, had 1 point and 5 shots in his first two games of his career, and looked good doing it, then got concussed by Volchenkov two shifts into the 3rd game of his NHL career. Came back a couple weeks later and after 5 less impressive games, was sent down to the AHL.

He then proceeded to destroy the AHL.

Got recalled, scored 2 goals in his first 3 games with 14 shots on net (playing much of the time on the 4th line), and then BAM, another major injury takes him out for 3 weeks, and then he comes back and doesn't look quite the same for 6 games, and gets sent back down to the AHL.

Schenn is going to be a work in progress with the puck, much like his closest historic comparable, Adam Foote was for the first few years of his career (though Foote was significantly better offensively in junior). .

and here I thought his closest historic comparable was Luke Richardson.

It would really be great if we could get Kovy. Other than the Holy Trinity, this guy's as good or better than any forward in the league.

If we could get it done without giving up Kadri or Kessel in the deal, that would be perfect.

I'd give them up in a heartbeat.

We've never, in our entire history, drafted a player as good as Kovalcuk. Ever.

We have the pieces to match any deal that's been made for any impact player in recent memory.

I'd be stunned if the Leafs ended up with Kovalchuk. I just can't see it happening with the track record of this franchise. They've ended up with some good UFA's throughout the years, but never a legit top five player.

Except you don't have a first rounder for the next two years.

yeah, because we have nothing to match the mighty 30th overall pick the Pens used to trade for Hossa, or the mighty nothingth overall pick the Sharks used to get Thornton or Heatley.

That Thornton trade was such a joke.

Sturm + Stuart + Primeau

=

Ponikarovsky + Gunnarsson + Primeau
