Are you really daft enough to think that Toronto is the only team that the Hawks can talk to regarding Sharp?

Teams will line up to attempt to get him. THis is not a hinderence contract like Jason Blake or Jeff Finger. This is a proven 60 point forward who was invited to the Team Canada camp.

He would easily become the Leafs to PK man and 2nd best point producer.

If the leafs dont want to give up top talent for him, then another team will

In fairness though, they all know Chicago's cap situation so they're not going to be banging down your door with great offers, they're going to try and take advantage of it.

I think you'll still get a good return but I would guess that won't help.
 
There aren't a ton of teams who can take on $3.9 million of salary right now, and not give money back.

The Hawks will probably be looking for UFA to be's, and that is probably the best they will be able to do. With maybe a prospect or pick coming back as well.

Sharp hasn't played much PK at all in the last couple of years. his coach prefers defensive dynamos like versteeg on the PK.

I'm sure teams will be dying to help Chicago out of its payroll dilemna by ponying up top prospects for a $4mil 60 point forward.

I disagree.

Sure i think a UFA to be comes back, along with a decent to top prospect/pick

Something like Stempniak/Exelby and Tlusty is what i would expect.

And you cant tell me a team like the Oilers. Who have room, and are desperate for talent right now wouldnt pay the premium for a guy like Sharpie.
 
It's funny that even though Sharp is such a good player, signed to such a good deal, that he's still always the first name that comes up as the most expendable player on the team.

We can waive Sopel and be fine for this season.

If we're going to get screwed in deals for these players why wouldn't we wait til the offseason to do it?

But I never said you'll get screwed when trying to unload some of these players. I just said you won't be getting a premium player or top prospect.

It doesn't work that way. It's the same reason that Dany Heatley didn't fetch a kings ransom, the other teams knew the Sens were screwed.
 
Why is it when we talk about getting a first or a premium exchange for players like poni or stajan or even antropov, everyone laughs and calls it homerism or leaf fan stupidity .... but when other players of comparison become available then these same psychovamps begin to bleed red through their fingertips in absolute ecstasy for the premium package that they could receive.

No ..... They need to throw in a second also. Poni with those two will get mega points ..... plus the expiring contract (poni) gotta throw in a second also.
 
do you think that poni is his equal?
If so, then we need to be compensated for the monetary/life exchange .... that would be a second, any other additions to that equation becomes a first and if that includes sopel then so be it.
 
Not to steal the thread but I am willing to bet that if Gigure is still available by the end of next weekend then you might see the leafs make a play for him and it might get bigger ... the leafs need a goalie and the ducks have to unload contract and the leafs need a draft choice ...
