Leaf Rumours

LA makes some sense. But only if they are willing to move a guy like Dustin Brown or Brayden Schenn.

Hickey, Moller, Teubert, Lokitonov, etc.. is beatable.

Schenn isn't the top-5 pick anymore.

He's Luke Schenn. And his value isn't where you guys think it is after this seasons play.

An average team with average prospects coming up.

Just from trading for Kovalchuk? I don't think so.

It will not cost Kessel and Kaberle and whatever to get him. It's impossible for the Thrashers to get value, really, as Kovalchuk is not replaceable. What they'll hope to get is a couple dimes and a nickel for their quarter.

The Leafs need a franchise player. They have the cap room coming up, the willingness and revenues to shell out the huge deal, and have exactly the type of GM that goes for these kind of moves. I thought for sure Kovalchuk would re-sign, because if he doesn't it's going to hammer another nail in the coffin of the team down there, but it sounds like he's tired of playing in front of the piddly crowds they get. If one of the top 5 players in the league doesn't sell the place out, what will?

And after the way this season has gone, Burke will want to redeem himself. It was definitely not his intention to ice one of the crappier teams in Leaf history, that's for sure.

A 20 year-old two years removed from being a top five pick, after an All-Rookie Team selection and a season in which he has posted the second-best plus-minus amongst the team's blueliners at +3?

You really think the Kings can afford him?

Yeah, I do actually. And it makes perfect sense for the Kings (in the second largest market in the league) to pay for one of the game's most dynamic, marketable players. He could be a Gretzky-lite type acquisition over there.

i think you give up a 3rd rounder after the season for him.... or something

like what the flames did with Jbo

So one year removed for a good rookie season and he's written off. That doesn't make sense Cork.

Schenn will be a high demand of any trade for something of value

any team getting Kovalchuk is committing to run a league max payroll for the next decade.

and I'm not sure they can do that.

and I also don't think getting another pricey forward really fits their needs at the moment. they're already spending a good chunk on forwards. they'll need to re-up Doughty very soon, and need more help on D and G beyond that.

It's amazing how a 5th overall pick can actually LOSE value by playing well for two years straight out of the draft.

Somehow, by currently being one of the best of his draft class so far, Schenn has actually LOST value.

and somehow a 5th overall pick like Alzner doesn't lose any value, despite not being able to stick in the NHL here 3 years out of the draft.

Somehow, if Schenn had stayed in junior, he would have apparently had more value than he does now.

Something tells me that if we had sent him back down, we'd be hearing about how we ruined him by sending him back down.

Same ol same ol.
