Leaf Rumours

Wouldn't the league have just as much incentive into putting Crosby into the Los Angeles market (for Anaheim) as they would with making him the "saviour" of the Pens?

Probably, I don't believe in the conspiracy theory myself. Just saying I think that's what JB and others were referring to.

Heh, if you want a conspiracy theory look at the 1985 NBA Draft that was clearly fixed:

I don't understand why that is....the year after Ovy's draft was the lockout...it's not like the Pens finished last overall again or anything.

Ovy & Sid were rookies in the same year

I believe the Pens did finish last the year Ovechkin was drafted. They got dropped to #2. Crosby was a rookie the same season as Ovechkin, but was drafted two different years. If Pittsburgh wins the draft like they should, they get Ovechkin, but they lose one ball in the Crosby lottery due to every team getting a #1 overall pick in the 3 years prior, lost a ball out of a possible 3 in the Crosby draft.

Strangely enough, losing Ovechkin was a great thing for them. They ended up with 2 franchise players, instead of 1.

I personally hate the Crosby conspiracies because 6 months leading to his draft, so many people told me it was a lock that it was "Fixed", and The Rangers were getting him. The Rangers actually dropped badly in that draft, and had no luck. So now Pittsburgh (who had the max. 3 balls) wins and that's a fix? No way.

I see, didn't remember that.

Still it would be sick seeing Crosby with Ovechkin, it pains me to see Crosby playing between such studs as Connor, Rupp or a washed up Guerin.

The only way that the draft lottery was fixed was that BS where different teams had different numbers of balls in the draw (and both the Rangers and the Pens coincidentally had the maximum 3 balls in the draw). With the season wiped out, it should have been 30 teams, 30 balls in that canister.

I agree 100%. My issue was with having some teams having 3 balls, was the NHl was "Double Rewarding" teams for previous seasons they've already been compensated for in the draft.

But the problem with not having 3 balls is a team like Detroit has just as good of a chance to get Crosby, as every shitty team.

Beacuse the draft awards bad teams. Always has. Why change that for no reason other than you want a better shot at Crosby?

Watching Burke's last couple of interviews, it seems pretty obvious that he's already got a couple of deals in his back pocket.

To NJD: M.Stajan
To TOR: 2nd + 4th

To PIT: A.Ponikarovsky
To TOR: 2nd + 4th

To VAN: L.Stempniak
To TOR: 2nd

To XXX: G.Exelby
To TOR: 5th

I doubt Stemp will fetch a 2nd.

And I'm hesitant to trade away Stajan and Poni for 2nd rounders. I'd rather trade away Grabovski than Stajan.

And while I'm pretty sure Poni's days in blue and white are numbered, I also think trading him away would be a mistake. Even as a 'support player', it's tough to find 25-30G, 55-60Pts player who plays a strong 2-way game and is a positive factor in the dressing room.

why?

Stemp's got a good reputation earned AWAY from the Leafs, was certainly valued pretty high last year, is having a good years this year (on pace for 20+gls/40+pts - i.e. top-6 production), works his butt off.

He should get a 2nd.

He's certainly more deserving of a 2nd than Moore was.

There was no season in 2005 so it only makes sense that everyone should have an equivalent shot at landing the top pick. You can't presume that the Red Wings would have won the Western Conference or that Atlanta would have had 60 points.
