Leaf Rumours

the problem I see is that I'd guess Nieuwy is looking at Kaberle to replace Zubov and fill his team's most glaring hole.

I can't see what Dallas has to offer for Kaberle that would be fair to Toronto other than Neal or Eriksson. And I don't see Dallas trading those guys given their situation.

Boston-based financier Jeffrey Vinik is rumored to be the favorite to buy the Lightning. And as the Hockey News writes, "There is also speculation that if Vinik buys the team, he will be eager to cut payroll to get player costs in line, which means captain Vincent Lecavalier and his $7.7 million salary cap hit (and $10 million salary for the next six seasons) may very well be shopped before the trade deadline and prior to Vinik taking control of the team."

So what does Lecavalier and his agent, Kent Hughes, think about all this? Hughes told the St. Petersburg Times, "I have not heard from anybody else within the Tampa Bay Lightning organization in regards to Vinny Lecavalier, period. It seems that any time there's mention of the Lightning outside Tampa Bay, it involves speculation about a Vinny Lecavalier trade."

Recently, there were rumors that the Rangers were interested in Lecavalier, but those rumors were denied -- at least twice. However, two league sources told the Ottawa Sun that the Lightning definitely had talks about dealing their struggling star. Hmm, who to believe...

I don't dislike Ribeiro ... I mean, I've had him 3 yrs in a row in my pool tells you something.

But going for Ribeiro would be the WRONG move Burkie. As much as I think Ribeiro is an under-rated offensive player and a consistent producer year in, year out, what this team needs is NOT another smallish forward with speed, some skills, but little in character.

This team needs a 70-80 points center with size, someone who's a good dressing room character, a leader or leader-to-be, and someone willing to go into the corner and stand in front of the net and score the ugly goals game in game out.

Someone like ... Antropov.

I would only be okay with this if it was Dallas' 1st coming with Ribeiro, and there was a separate plan to rid additional salary (Finger & Blake) in the off season (as in..being sent through waivers and to the AHL after training camp)

Ribeiro isn't the answer to our problems, and it would be a huge failure if he ended up standing in the way of us landing the answer.

With that said...he's stupid talented and is a playmaker of the same calibre that Savard is. He's the type of centre you want feeding the puck to Kessel.

He just happens to be a douche.

This is exciting if true but i am kinda worried this will be a desperation trade and if that is teh case the odds of it working out wont be too good.

Talbot is an ideal 3rd line center. Good on draws. Good on the forecheck. Good on the PK. Blocks shots. Has a decent amount of offensive talent.

The Leafs could use a guy like that.

After today they could use a guy like Poni too though.

Poni is a good chip to get something better than himself.

I'm not giving up a 29 year old 30 goal scorer for some third line center with zero offence.

I'd much rather just keep Poni if that's the return for him.

Not that I think he's coming to TO buy Kotalik has been told to go home as the Rangers work out the details of a trade
