Leaf Rumours

I'd be very wary of Moreau, who is basically the same player as Mayers, but costs $2.0 mil.

I guess, though, it's only one more year left on that deal, which makes it very waivable....so if we get a good pick out of it, it might be worth it.

Moreau and EDM's 2nd for Exelby is a trade we'd need to make, if it were presented to us.

Worst case, Moreau languishes in the pressbox for most of next year.

That's a valuable 2nd rounder.

Agreed.

That second rounder is worth taking on Moreau for one year, particularly when he can be simply waived and sent to the Marlies if we need that cap space.

No I think there are TWO years left on his contract, not one.

Regardless though, I can't see Moreau being worse than Primeau, and if he takes Primeau's spot, the 2nd rounder is worth it.

Worst, you send him down to the Marlies like we did to Devereaux.

Nope. This current season and next season.

Wasn't Moreau the captain? If he is a good leadership guy, he would replace the "leadership" we lost in Mayers. I'd do that deal if we saved some cash on Exelby and got Edmonton's 2nd rounder in the deal.

As for Mueller for Grabovski, there's no chance. Unless Darryl Sutter leaves Calgary to become the Phoenix GM in the next couple of weeks.

If you're the Oilers you don't give up nearly a 1st round pick to dump a guy who makes 2 mill for only one more year.

then again, you usually don't trade allstar 24 year old defencemen for spare parts either....

Gainey and Sutter have both proven to be capable of incompetence.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's more out there.

Teams in dire straits make questionable moves. Edmonton certainly doesn't need pointless salaries on the books when they have an opportunity to clear the decks and be a potential player in free agency.

Phoenix is at the cap floor this season, and has no centers under contract for next season.

Obviously they'll resign Hanzus (RFA), but it's questionable whether Lombardi or Lang will be brought back.

Mueller's also someone they want to get rid of, has been on the block for nearly the entire season, and has yet to illicit any bites.

They want a young roster player, or prospect back in return for him.........I could easily seeing them wanting to make a deal that (a) takes care of their need for a center for the next two years, (b) help them get to the cap floor for next year, (c) increases their on ice production for this years playoff push.

May we need to add something to the deal?........possibly. Overall though, I think it's a deal that could be quite appealing to them.

I don't want Mueller unless it's for a song.

And Grabs, whatever he is, is not a song.

Mitchell is a song. And not a pleasant one.

I was going to say that myself, volcanologist.
Too bad for them, but too much winter makes them maybe the least palatable location in the league.

Mueller is precisely the kind of kid you want to snag when you see another team go sour on him at 21 years of age.

Mueller without a doubt is a player we should jump on. Even though i see him more as a winger then a centre, he can still be a very productive player.

If Phoenix is willing to give him up for scraps then i say pick him up without thinking about it.

Phoenix IS going to bring Lombardi back ... it's funny, because Calgary traded Lombardi + 1st + spare parts for Jokinen, and Lombardi's actually matched Jokinen this season, point for point.

And Edmonton will do ANYTHING they can to dump bad contracts. Do you know how many they have? And the most dump-able one, Souray, is all of a sudden undumpable because he broke his hand in a fight last Sat.

The Oilers should be more desperate in dumping bad contracts ... they can't rebuild with all these dead weights.
