Leaf Rumours

This isn't a rumor, but why not discuss it as a hypothetical. Canes are possibly content with their center situation moving forward, and the Leafs clearly aren't. Would you guys trade Rielly for the #5 pick and the chance at Monahan, Lindholm, or Barkov? In my eyes, that trade makes a lot of sense for the Leafs, as it would probably solve our center situation a lot more effectively than signing Weiss would, for example.. Not so sure the Canes would do it, though. Regardless, it would be cool to have a Kadri-Lindholm/Monahan/Barkov top 2 for years to come.

There are a few pretty good Center prospects so it makes sense. You have to find your centers in the draft as we've learned the hard way.

Barkov, lindholm or Monahan would be perfect. All good two way centers that are tough to play against.

Monahan would be my man, many scouts have told me could be the best kid in this years draft ahead of MacKinnon and Jones

I just don't see a fit; what could Carolina want? Unless we are parting with Gardiner? We shall see a guess; I was told it was relatively quiet on the Leaf front; and that we will be making likely "the best" offer to Vinny
Music to my ears. Can't blame Nonis if Lecavalier isn't interested in playing here, but if we come in with the best offer, at least he's done everything within his power.

...and "no" to trading Rielly for the 5th overall. Rielly was a fifth overall pick, and he's got one more year of development under his belt than whoever gets picked 5th this year will have. So, how about we just hang on to our terrific prospect and see what he can do? If we could get a shot at one of the top guys, I'd understand, but otherwise it's just a sideways move.

It's a sideways move, but we're at a point where we're good enough to make positional moves. And this would solve the one glaring need that we've had since Mats left. I'd be completely on board with that move, even though there is no guarantee that the center we take will have a better career than Rielly.

Makes sense.

For me, if I'm trading Rielly for a center, I'd want it to be a young center who's already established himself as an NHL player. Trading a lottery ticket for another lottery ticket seems like a waste of time.

If the Leafs have the opportunity to get themselves a possible elite center for the next decade through the draft, i think they have to pull the trigger. Gardiner and Reilly are great prospects but they're still only that.

I think Rutherford wants a top 4 D now....

I wouldn't be surprised to see the 5 dealt in a deal involving Gardiner, Phaneuf or Edler.

A coup for Nonis could be to deal Phaneuf for the 5, and the get Edler from the Canucks.

I'm on 2 different group texts today so ill post updates when I can, but it looks like Carolina wants Phaneuf/Gardiner/Rielly coming back

Does Killer93 have a decent track record?

Its not my info, know 2 different friends when I did Journalism at Ryerson who are now in the business; they have called some stuff right before but other stuff they are way off; like everyone else. At least they don't claim to have all the sources lol
