Leaf Rumours

Reimer was outplayed by Rask, and you know what. That is the ONLY thing that really counts. Outplayed. And Reimer in my opinion, and Phaneuf, led the way to our decline. And Carlyle, in one of his rare bad moments, failed to call any time outs. I suppose he thought that crowd might get even more ferocious, or he just wanted it all to go away. BUT.....

Reimer choked. Plain and simple. And what is OUR RECORD IN SHOOTOUTS. Why does everyone give me SV. Gimme how many wins he had in shootouts. And then let me see anyone who can SPIN that BASkETbALL. Anyone, course not. And my question mark stopped working all of a sudden.

Jays, I just cannot agree more. I think Reimer is a choke and that Scrivens is Bruce Gamble 2.0. One a choke, the other a fraud, it was Wregget and Bester all over again. The Leafs defence and Randy Carlyle went and worked their asses off, to accomodate how awful we were in goal.

I am totally pumped to see what level this team can get to, when they know they don`t have to play doomsday defence for a change. And play guys like Mark Fraser 25 minutes a game, to smother everyone, so that Reimer and Scrivens don`t get a meaningful shot on them. From inside.

Jake Gardiner is the biggest winner in this, now he can be inserted into the lineup without being replaced by someone who is all defence.

I wonder what excuse you'll come up next year..but then again you kinda bailed yourself out already by saying he might play very well next year. You do realize these are human beings and are affected in different ways? There's no way you can guarantee that Bernier will take over. Reimer, during those times when he looked like Ed Belfour(cool, calm and making easy saves) was injury free but also played without any pressure..The only time i saw him nervous was during the playoffs and imo there are quite a few good reasons for that(we haven't had a competent goalie for so many years, plus no playoffs in so long)..Next year he'll be posting a .930.

This entire discussion is ridiculous.

The Leafs posted a top 7 SV% overall. It was one of their greatest strengths last year, regular season and playoffs. And it was by far the cheapest out of top teams as well.

But carry on about Reimer's glove hand and Scrivens being slow and awkward. Last year must have been a miracle from jesus. But we have the pretty Bernier to save the day, thank god.

I have zero doubts about Reimer's ability to continue being an average-plus starter, but I question whether Scrivens is anything more than a replacement level goaltender, yes.

The AHL's consistent historical tendency to inflate numbers of mediocre goaltenders and his lack of mobility and poor lateral movement combine to make me think that he won't have a lengthy NHL career. Goaltending is the one position where one cannot solely judge future performance by numbers.

Then your contacts are idiots and know nothing about hockey. What a stupid comment of them and you to make.

Name me a worse tandem in Leaf history. Turkey. I just told you the OBVIOUS. The reason we played guys like Mark Fraser all season long and sat a brilliantly talented guy like Gardiner, is because Carlyle knew he had two turkeys to go to. And what did he say to Nonis as well as Tanen BUM. GIMME a goddamn goaltender.

Sure, Reimer can pull off a good NHL start. But can he win the game in a shootout. CAN SOMEONE ANSWER THAT, or does than mean they have to take off their blue and white bikini. Just answer a question. A salient one.

Jays, you know the most important position in hockey and you know what constitutes a good to great goalie. Very pleased to see that. As Scotty Bowman once said, GIMME a good goaltender and I give you a good coach. Its all you gotta know about hockey at times.

Carlyle should get a bronze statue and a 5 milion dollar bonus cheque for getting into the playoffs with Reimer and Scrivens. And Reimer and Scrivens should give half their cheques to Carlyle, his assistants and the defence for fooling most of this board that they are NHL calibre goalies.

This conversation is over when someone tells me how we win a hockey game in a shootout with Reimer or Scrivens. Can anyone here answer the question. And in an eight two game season, how can you roll with two DUDS in shootouts. How can you.

Those were coincidences..Just like Naz not being able to score all of a sudden(after initially being so good in shootouts)..but no let's hear how you see something nobody on here can...

I think Reimer can be brilliant in five on five play. He can, but the shootout exposes his lack of athleticism. Stopping shooters in a one on one situation is all about being more athletic than the shooter, and Reimer fails miserably. Horribly.

As Carlyle just said the other day, and this was MEANT to explain why asked for Bernier, THE NHL IS NOT a developmental league. Its the goddamn NHL.

This is clearly a joke.

We just witnessed one of the best goaltended seasons in Maple Leafs history.

It was a half season. No way we could have kept those two goaltenders hidden in plain view for 82 games Zeke. We took advantage of a players strike and hired a coach who brilliantly covered up two Luke Schenn's in net. That is my opinion. And the opinion of most of MLSE management after Burke left and most of the ex Leafs who hang around MLSE.
