Leaf Rumours

Cuz they have a glut of centres and no d. And they'd save 2 mill or 2.5 next year.

It would be a smart move.
 
2 things was just told:

1) Look for Grabovski to land in Detroit, Wings were interested in acquiring him if the Leafs ate some salary.

2) There are rumblings of a significant deal coming down for the Leafs and Liles could also be shipped off soon

Colorado still has $11M+ in cap space with 12 forwards, 8 defensemen and 2 goalies signed. So, there's no urgency to free up cap space immediately.

From a pure cash perspective, Stastny is under contract for one more season at $6M. Liles is owed $11.55M over the three years remaining on his contract.
 
If grabs signs in Detroit the winter classic and 24/7 will be the greatest game of the decade
 
Even if he rebounds I doubt it will be at the level that justifies that salary/term... but you never know. Tough call but ultimately Nonis felt it was the best move.
 
If he rebounds, good for him. I've always liked Grab as a player.

But the $5.65M contract, there's no way he will rebound to a level to justify that contract.
 
The Leafs are desperately trying to get rid of Phaneuf, no one wants him. Carlyle wants rid of him and Grabo, Tan a BUM, wanted Reimer and Scrivens out of the net. And Kessel for sure is gone if we do not sign Bozak.

So next season is going to be a big season for MLSE and Tan a BUM. Cause when we lose Kessel (if we don't sign Bozak) we should be really lousy the following year, which would set up us nicely for Connor McDavid. But next year, could be the best year the Leafs have in a long time, since the big years.

Dreger doesn't read forum ice, everyone at MLSE knows that Kessel gave MLSE an eight years at the maximum league salary contract, AND when MLSE did not even respond, the agent for Kessel withdrew the offer and now doesn't even want to talk about Kessel coming back.

Yes, it could be a tactic, but if Kessel doesn't get the league max from the Leafs, he could be gone and get us NOTHING in return, Chris Bosh all over again. And if Bozak is gone on top of it, he is further gone.
 
And Grabo would be AWESOME in Detroit under Babcock and playing with Datsyuk and Zetterberg, I will cheering for him as he makes Fraser and Phaneuf crazy in our zone.

I think buying him out is a big, big mistake UNLESS we sign Bozak and that prompts Kessel to stay. Otherwise, this is a BIG, BIG mistake.
 
If Kessel really is enough of a loser where he'd only stay if he has his best buddy mediocre center playing with him....then honestly it's not worth keeping a clown like that.

That said...I don't for one second believe that to be true....unless in 2 years we see the Calgary Flames with the pair of them.

that was my first though too knowing that Det is in our conference now.
 
Detroit is an interesting notion for Grabo.

For whatever reason I think Winnipeg makes sense too, as well as all the floor teams looking for a number 1B C for 3.5-4 M......( Florida, NYI, Phoenix, Nashville)
