Leaf Rumours

Calm yourself, Killer has been gold in the past.

Its not my info, but yea he has nailed some stuff in the past. But two of his sources say we are likely out, he hasn't sent it in yet so we will see. Its all speculation at this time of the year; kind of glad I left the Journalism field

Ah well I guess we will see; my buddy has been wrong before; he did send in a report that Luongo was a Leaf at the last deadline lol

Yes, 5 mill might seem a lot for Clarkie and I've watched the guy since junior.

But David Clarkson is a platoon sergeant. He puts it on the line for the guys he serves with. We haven't had one of those in a long time. What you pay Clarkie for isn't what he does on the ice, it's the fact that he's willing to inspire. I watched this kid for three years in junior. With the best centre in the OHL as his line-mate, he bled for his team.

You can't teach that George Armstrong, Charlie Conacher, even (dare I say) Dave Keon dedication to the logo on the front. It has to be something that they just do. And I've seen David Clarkson do it for years. You want that guy. He's it. You won't pay 5 million for what he does during the regular season. But you can't pay enough for what he does when the paycheques stop.

I'm calm, I'm just saying I believe a guy in the hockey media who used to be a NHL coach over a few anonymous sources.

Killer has media sources....Pierre Maguire is a media source.

Btw...if a Clarkson deal was "99%" done hours ago, it would be done by now.

14 points in 44 career playoff games....3 goals in Jersey's entire run to the finals (after being a 30 goal scorer during the regular season). I don't think these are the droids you're looking for...not at 5 million a year anyway.

Once again, still not what I'm talking about.

Kind of guy who puts his body in front of a puck on a point shot. Kind of guy who grabs Milan Lucic and stays on his feet long enough to trade punches with him to break Boston's momentum. It's not always about numbers. It's about sacrifice. Would anyone on this board not trade Clarkson for Lucic when it comes to matching 5 minute majors in the last 4 minutes of that game seven?

I watched him do it for years. When the game is on the line, even if he's not scoring, Clarkie will find a way. This is the kind of guy that plays on championship teams. Know how I know? I watched him do it.

Yea i still don't want to be overpaying for Clarkson.

There will be a few guys left when the dust settles that will provide better value.

A guy like Dustin Penner, though not as good will provide good value at lets say 3 million per season. As opposed to Clarkson at 5-6 Million per season.

My thinking is 2x Penner > 1x Clarkson

You watched him do it in Junior. In the NHL he had a chance to be that guy and was a playoff flop. You don't pay 5 million dollars for intangibles in a capped environment. The difference between Lucic & Clarkson is that Lucic does all those other things, and puts up decent offensive numbers in the playoffs (and was borderline heroic this year for Boston).

See, what you're talking about is irrelevant. You're talking about guys who will break their face to win, I agree that they're absolutely needed. But without guys putting the puck in the net, their blood is in vain. You don't get paid 5 million to bleed, you get paid 5 million to put the puck in the net, I can bleed for much cheaper than that, but I can't put the puck in the net.

Man 5-6 per year for clarkson is ludicrous. How sre they gonna address the middle? Bozak and grabo both out and naz isnt signed. Thst signing would be uggggly.

Penner sucks ASS.

I'm down for Clarkson, just not for a totally unreasonable number.

Better than alot of the options thrown around lately, especially at the cost we keep hearing about. Penner is a big body that can play on a line with Bolland to grind and pop a few goals in close.
