Leaf Rumours

Byfuglien doesn't really make sense in any context. He's a pretty terrible d-man defensively (last thing we need), and our depth on the wings is one of this team's strengths.
 
He's big, he moves the puck well, he produces from the blueline and he shoots right. All things our blue line is missing.

Not sure he is worth what he'll get in return though.

But he's an outstanding winger on the half boards and would immediately replace Raymond in the top 6 (actually, top 9)

Yes, we would absolutely need to add another defender after trading Gunner, but Buff would be an awesome add to our forward group.

1. We already have enough big guys on the blueline and look at where its gotten us
2. Too many offensive blueliners (Phaneuf, Rielly, Gardiner, Franson) we don't need another
3. I agree we do need another top 4 right shooting D but IMO Buf isn't the answer
4. He has a bad attitude, more then enough of that already on this team no need to further pollute the waters
 
I'd love to add Buf to our groups of wingers....but I'd really really hate to lose Gunnarsson from our D core. (I wouldn't be very fond of dealing Reimer just yet either....to me that's an offseason thing, at the earliest)


That said, if we could get Buff for Reimer, Franson, +......I'd be all over it.
 
Big guys and physical aren't always the same thing. On the leafs blueline, after Phaneuf, the physicality drops in a hurry. Franson is big, but not physical. Gunnar has not been good this year. Gardiner and Reilly aren't anyone you'd call 'physical'. Gleason is the next most physical behind Phaneuf.

So not that I like Buff as a dman, but he does bring something to the team we lack.
 
Winnipeg and Toronto seem like the 2 teams in the NHL itching to make a trade.

I'll say that much...and both sides have a ton of compelling players.
 
If we're talking about Dustin Byfuglien the defenseman, I've got zero interest. A rover is not exactly something this defense core desperately needs. But if we were bringing him here with the express understanding that he's exclusively a winger for the entire time he's here, then sign me up.

Sorry I should have clarified better, I meant big as in size not physicallity. IMO Byuflien is the last thing this team needs, he's lazy and despite putting up decent numbers from the backend he's nothing special defensively.
 
Pronger.... everyone has been saying Byf as a winger. No one has said they'd want him as a defenseman.

He as a winger on this team in our zone would help tremendously these half board battles. And if we ever go against Boston in the playoffs again, let's see Chara hack and chop to move that 300lb ass parked in front of Rask.

It would definitely toughen us up in the top six, and move Raymond down the line.

I agree though, I'd do it for Reimer and Franson + I'd want to keep Gunnar.
 
The last game, Gardiner was getting Fransons PP time with Dion. If you somehow found a way to get Byf with Franson in the deal, how good would it be to have the right shooting Byf on one point and the left shooting Dion on the other.

You have a really similar script every time a Leaf is mentioned in trade talks. Do you really want to take a walk down memory lane? Bernier, Holland, JVR, Franson, Phaneuf, etc...all acquired for players/packages that just wouldn't "cut it" according to you.
