Leafs acquire David Rittich from Calgary

Ehhhhhhhhhhh.

This is my least impressed day of Dubie’s tenure. I don’t like throwing assets at consolation prizes.
 
I guess no point in getting a goalie you intend to keep since we can’t protect both from Seattle. But underwhelmed by the choice here.

He was signed as the 4th goalie. Never the plan for him to be a #2 for this much of the season
 
We’re gonna be hearing ppl hope Fred gets the starter role back indefinitely until we either trade or announce he’s done-done for the year, aren’t we?

Yup.

But I'm totally fine handing the keys to Jack, with Rittich a reasonable option as backup. Something had to be done.

I really dislike what the Nerd has done today.

Last 2 seasons:

Rittich: 63GP .906 , -.09 GSAA
Fred: 75GP, .906, -.10 GSAA
Hutch: 24GP, .898, -.32 GSAA
Jack: 37GP, .913, +.11 GSAA

So we entered the day in need of a top 6 forward and a goalie we could trust in a platoon with Jack and left the day down 4 drafts picks and still in need of a top 6 forward and a goalie who we could trust in a platoon with Jack.

Fucking abysmal.

To be fair, the better options out there (Ullmark, Kuemper) have injury issues and they need someone who can jump in now. Not sure who else on this side of the border who is healthy could have been acquired.

How much you going to hate the 7D he chooses?
 
Rittch has been as "good" as Andersen, but they had to get an NHL goalie. If a better one is moved this doesn't make sense, but maybe this is the best that was out there. Cant go into the playoffs with Hutch as the #2.

He's an upgrade on what Fred's been since December of 2019, at least.

Not a high bar to jump over, granted. But he was a decent platoon goalie the past couple of years, and has been OK (and the better of two goalies) behind a bad Calgary team this year.

Again, definitely not my first choice, but he helps.

We could have made due with Jack and Hutch for a 7 day quarantine.

This is just a bad trade for a bad goalie who is barely better than Hutch.
