Leafs acquire Matt Murray

Petr Mrazek has been a better goaltender than Matt Murray over the last three years.

Terrible overpaid backup
1st rounder

for

2nd rounder

3rd rounder
7th rounder
Equally terrible overpaid goalie who's always hurt and we now have to use as a starter
$1 million less cap space than when we started the offseason

That's what glasses just did.

What in the actual fuck.

I do think this part is kinda misleading. The value of dropping from 25 to 38 is a third.

So it's more like Mrazek + 3rd -> Murray + 3rd + 7th

If he double retains, it's probably fine.

Double retention would mean you add a 2nd to get Murray in a little cheaper than Mrazek with (IMO) a higher likelihood of performing well.

So it basically would have been:
Mrazek and a 2nd
FOR
Murray, a 7th and ~700k in cap space.

Worth a shot making that swap. This one feels a hell of a lot more lateral at best when factoring in the $900k in additional AAV used on Murray.

Lots of people (especially former NHLers turned pundits) liked the Foligno trade and thought he was exactly what we needed.

Same pundits that call our guys overrated while wearing a leaf sweater. Only to turn around and praise them like Hyman when they go elsewhere.

That trade was shit.

Glasses and his bean counter are smart so once again I will give him the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise on the money situation.

The next move may not be the right one but they have the cap side of things down to decimal on any given day

They don’t deserve any benefit of doubt. None. Shit move after shit move.

Dubas said they will bring in bargain bin forwards to compete with kids for depth spots. So I would think that means more than just ZAR, but likely a few Amadio/Vesey/Buntings. Guys willing to take less than $1 mill.

I guess multi-year retention is hard to come by - and would cost more than what we've witnessed in deadline deals.

But I'd love to see if anyone has figured out the dollar-value of a pick when it comes to retention.

Murray was .899 in his last season with the Pens

If we're going to cling to something, cling to his health. Conkys can take a long long time to feel "right" from. He had a few in Pittsburgh and then another one last year that ended his season.
