Leafs' Prospect/Marlies Discussion Thread!

No issues with any prospect who wants to spend extra time in either the Swedish or Finnish leagues.

They’re good leagues, generally don’t fuck around with young NHL prospects like the KHL does, and we’ll be getting a more finished product once he’s ready to come over and start the clock on his ELC.

Not even sure what our blueline looks like next year.

Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Lilly
Sandin-Niemela
Rubins

Trade Dermott & Holl?

I'd bring back the same group tbh. Maybe move one of holl/dermott at most.

I don't think Niemela sticks.

Muzzin should go. Even if it's just to trade him and get a return, and then sign a UFA that would be Muzzin-ish.

I don't think he's going to hold up.

I'm not against replacing Muzz in the off season, but I don't think there's a UFA I want any piece of. I'm not even sure if Lindholm is actually good and he's going to be 6-7 million. Klingberg is good but isn't what we need.

It's a pretty thin UFA class. No stealth top pairing TJ Brodie's out there imo.

Honestly, if the trade and sign route fails, we might be better off without Muzzin next year and letting one of the existing kids step in and trust him.

Feels like a safer bet than getting stuck with a broken down $5M albatross, which I'm fearful he's quickly becoming.

I'm not a big Muzz backer but that's a bit severe even for me. Muzz has been okay but just ok in his heavy lifting role this year, with an upgrade in partner (Next year's Lilly, or Sandin/Lilly moves up with Rielly and Brodie to the Muzz pair) we'll probably get a bit more out of him. If we can strangle one more year out of Muzz, we get through the full NMC/NTC portion of his contract, there will be one more year left on his deal, with only 2 million dollars in real money left on it for 23-24. Easy to move on from. Also a better UFA crop available to replace him, on top of another year of development for the blueline kids we have. UFA's that summer that could be interesting for a lockdown role: Dumoulin, Orlov, Weegar.

That's the issue. His mobility has regressed in a huge, huge way the past year. And will get worse. Plus he gets injured too much for my liking. That's a bad combo.

I wouldn't cry if he's here next year or anything, but it feels like we could probably net a great return for him in trade and then just turn around and spend some money to bring in another guy. And if there's no other guy worth bringing in, I really like all our young dmen, so I'd roll with them, at least until the deadline next year and add if necessary.
