Leafs' Prospect/Marlies Discussion Thread!

kinda puts into perspective just how spoiled we have been the last few years.

I still remember when Robbie Earl was a thing.

If Robertson's AHL production last year was dodgy, I'd have concerns.

Kid needs to slow the game down in his head a bit, learn when and when not to risk his body and he'll be fine. Still no reason to not expect a Debrincat type player here in the not so distant future.

Yeah he's a bit of a north-south, head down and plow forward type of player. Needs to slow down and work on using his teammates.

He just needs to play. Has by far the highest upside of our forward prospects, but the question is how far have injuries set him back. If he had a 60 point season in the AHL last year, and was putting up a ppg in half a season this year hed be at callup time. But instead he's only played 29 games.

I think he was out 10 weeks so should be back soon.

Skills are great and all, but when a player shows he can’t stay healthy at all, at an age where he should be his healthiest, it doesn’t bode well. So I based my comment on an expectation that he’ll never stay healthy enough to achieve anything. Really hope this just turns out to be a brief spell, but I’ll need to see that to believe it.

Weren't there only 35 AHL games played last season? Other than the knee injury at the beginning of the season, he was fine no?

A bit early to go calling him injury prone. Both injuries looks like he put himself in bad positions being overly aggressive in trying to be first on the puck in a 50/50. It's not like he's picking up weirdo little wear and tear injuries at 20 yrs old or anything chronic. Both have been from impact where a small player put himself in a position a small player shouldn't be putting himself in.

I thought he got injured with us also, not just when he was down there. Seemed like 3-4 injuries at this point which have resulted in basically no playing time. Anyway, I'm highly biased against guys who get injured a lot. If a really good player is only going to be around for 40 games in a normal season, I'd rather just not have him frankly.

Covid has been at least as big an impediment to his playing time as injuries.

Something to remember is that while some players are legitimately injury prone that is generally due to something chronic. Think of Crosby's whiplash/conky issue. There's not too many guys who are full on Lupul/Gaborik types that just break easy.

wake me when Robertson can go within 5 yards of another NHL level player without falling down. it's not even the getting hurt part that has dimmed his star a bit for me. being small is one thing, being weak is entirely another.

He needs to build his frame, and if that is ever to happen - he's in exactly the right place. He's still a pup.
