Leafs' Prospect/Marlies Discussion Thread!

NHLe always over rates ncaa production and under values euro top league production fwiw. Their age adjustments are just wrong.

I wanted to take a bit of a deeper look at this and the first thing that jumps out at me is this:

Raty plays in the same league as Niemela and though technically a year behind Niemela, Topi is 7 months older. Both are 19, Raty turned in early November and is "old" for D+1, Topi turns 20 at the end of March and is relatively young for D+2

For the sake of fairness we'll consider Raty an 18 yr old this season and Topi obviously a 19 yr old.

Raty(C): .82ppg
Topi (D): .77ppg

NHL contemporaries of Raty (18 yr old liiga production between .7-.9)

Armia, Teravainen, Kupari, Tikanen, Jokinen, Granlund. That's 6 of the 15 players in that scoring range who have carved out real NHL careers. Not a damn thing wrong with that. But to have him ranked 4th with Topi (7 months older) ranked that much below and having literally zero modern contemporaries and nearly double the production of his closest 19 yr old peers (Vatanen, Pitkanen, Niinimaa, Numinen) seems off to me. Almost feels like another case of Lilly-syndrome, where there are so few contemporaries to work with that the adjustments just don't work.

The only Liiga performance in modern history better than what Topi is doing is Heiskanen's 18 yr old season. A 3rd overall pick on pace for 50+ points as a 22 yr old #1 defender in the show.

I always thought nhles were legit useless without pp splits.

Ps I think some of our kids are on tsn right now in a pre tournament game

I mean a dman and forward having the same NHLe is way more impressive for the dman.

Also that is PNHLe, which is just that guys model, whatever its worth.
