Craig's List: Plenty of intrigue surrounding Matvei Michkov ahead of NHL Draft | TSN

Connor Bedard is the runaway favourite to be taken first overall by the Blackhawks on June 28 in Nashville but don’t be surprised if Matvei Michkov ends up being the biggest talking point.

Based on Craig's list there are some really interesting names where the Leafs pick.

Andrew Cristall put up the best 17 year old season in the WHL in decades behind Bedard. Better than Jarvis, Point, Benson. Literally everyone other than Bedard.

Quentin Musty was the 1st overall pick in the O, and put up 1.47 ppg as a 17 year old.

Riley Heidt, 1.44 ppg in the WHL. Mikhail Gulyayev best all time season for a 17 year old Russian dman. Etienne Morin 1.07 ppg as a 17 year old dman in the Q. Lukas Dragicevic 1.10 ppg as a dman in the W.
 
Cristall is often talked about as a top 15 pick

I don’t think Musty makes it past 20th because he’s one of the few guys with size with gaudy production
 
Yeah, how would a guy like Cristall fall that far? He seems destined to go higher.

But that would be fucking awesome if he fell.
 
He might fall to the Leafs. I’ve seen a huge variance on him in the mocks — injury related and late season blahs

I don't think any of those guys should be there at 28, but they are every year. The NHL hates little guys that aren't fast, dmen that score and russians.

True. I think Cristall faded a bit down the stretch so recency bias among scouts might benefit Leafs
 
It would be really nice if we could get a mid to late pick or two for one or two of our pending UFAs.

Doubt it happens, but shit, we have so many guys expiring. Would feel a bit better to have an extra 6th and 7th for some lotto selections.
 
Cristall is really divisive. His offense screams top 6, but his skating is pretty awful to go with a 5'9-5'10 frame and concerns with puck pace have many questioning if he's going to be another Jr. star that can only play offense and can't transfer to the NHL (Bracco, anyone?). His playoffs weren't great, but that more showcased the weakness of Kelowna and Seattle's ability to focus and shut him down. My concern would be his meh U18s. If he's available at 28, I'd take a flyer if his skating can possibly improve, but if a Simashev, Heidt, or Edstrom are magically are still around, I'd take any of them instead.
 
Akky and the Swede being our 1-2 next season for the Marlies is about as ideal a pipeline as anyone has at the moment imo.

Wouldn't mind seeing an impact goalie addition though, with Woll being the 1B/Backup

warning note is that i believe Akhtyamov played in the weaker portion of the KHL this year.

Peksa actually replaced Akhtyamov on the VHL Bars Kazan team, so they both had their age 20 seasons with that same team:

I still think pesky Peksa had video out there that showed him to look pretty damn awesome, even if it no longer exists, so that adds up for me.

Hilariously tiny midget that doesn’t have either high-end skill or plus skating ability.

Will be surprised if we ever see him back on this side of the pond, even if Putin doesn’t send him to the front lines.
