It depends on what team you follow.

A quick glance at their Leaf coverage didn’t leave me impressed but their Hab writers are good. I enjoy the Raptors coverage but what really makes it worth it for me is their excellent Vikings and general NFL coverage.

Cory Pronman of the Athletic has been doing his annual organizational rankings over the last little bit. This isn't strictly a ranking of prospects, since it includes anyone who's under 23 (which includes Auston Matthews for another seven days).

The Leafs come in at #4 on his rankings:





His ranking of U23 players in the Leaf system:

2. Nick Robertson
3. Rasmus Sandin
4. Timothy Liljegren
5. Mikhail Abramov
6. Filip Hallander
7. Nick Abruzzese

Also, read his criteria for this ranking. It's not a prospects ranking.

He uses an objective age cut off to compare the youth on each team, not a subjective term like "prospect".

And that age cut off means there's NHLers in his mix. I don't think anyone confuses this with the 'cupboard'.

It's not a measure of the pipeline -- which is pretty simple and similarly objective concept: players who are in the system but have yet to become regular NHLers. The nice thing about that *objective* measurement is that it includes guys like Lehtonen and other 'overagers'.
