Leafs' Prospect/Marlies Discussion Thread!

Apparently the AlpsHL is the child of the former Italian Serie A league and what was left of the Austro-Slovenian league after the Euro ICE league was formed:

So it's a 3rd tier pro league in euro

Tier 1: KHL, SHL, Liiga
Tier 2: Czech, NLA, DEL, ICE, Slovak
Tier 3: British, French, AlpsHL, Danes

So we'd be talking about probably CHL (Central, not Canadian) or NAHL level hockey.

Pfft.

Steal.

If he happens to defy the odds we can count on one thing

Alphabetical in Tiers

Tier 1 (4): Amirov, Liljegren, Robertson, Sandin

Tier 2 (7): Akhtyamov, Hirvonen, Holmberg, Knies, Kokkonen, Miettenin, Niemela

Tier 3 (9): Abramov, Abbruzzese, SDA, Koster, Ovchinnikov, Rindell, Rubins, Steeves, Voit

Conveniently ends up as a Top-20 list, by fluke.

Though I'm slightly tempted to add in Curtis Goat 2.0 Douglas in tier 3 there just for fun.

Read that the Leafs invited James Hardie to camp. He was passed over in the draft the last two years, but scored 34 goals and over 1 ppg as a 17 year old in the OHL, then didn't play at all last year.

Another guy like Voit who likely would have been drafted (higher) if the OHL played this season.

Hopefully some of this talent flowing through the pipeline can make its way onto the roster in the next year or two and start augmenting our depth with cheap ELC talent again.

The past couple of years have been a little rough in that regard. We’ve been stuck in a bit of a wasteland where we should have been starting to graduate prospects from the Hunter years, and (most) of the subsequent Dubas picks were still too young to contribute.

Yep.

Hunter's shit drafting is one of the key reasons (aside from the Marner contract) that Dubas has to go bargain hunting in the offseason. Dubas seems to be doing an excellent job of stocking the pipeline. However, that is yet to be seen. Let's hope there's a soon to emerge group of prospects getting into the NHL at good value.

Yeah, the jury’s still out on Dubas’s drafting too. But at least with his, there’s a bunch of guys who’ve progressed very nicely and who I have a reasonable hope could be contributors at the NHL level.

With Hunter’s picks, a lot of them were obviously no-hopers either immediately after they were drafted, or by their draft+1 season.
