Leafs' Prospect/Marlies Discussion Thread!

Does any other coach so strictly apply a “lefty LD, righty RD” lineup? I don’t recall ever hearing so much emphasis on this.
I don't think it's an entirely Babcock thing. I'm pretty sure there are plenty of advanced stats also in support of lefty-righty pairings being optimal.

Of course, simply having your best six defensemen dressed is more important, as well as giving your best defensemen the most playing time.

And yeah, I don't think any of the Leaf coaches we grew up with cared a whole lot about it, whether it was Burns, Quinn, Maurice, Wilson, Carlyle, etc.

L-R is nice to have, but it shouldn't stop you from playing your best 6 in order of best to worst. There is an analytics argument for L-R pairings, but it's not overwhelming or anything, it's just ideal. Playing Travis Dermott more than Nikita Zaitsev is also ideal. Shit, Boston's top pair is two righties.

TIL Chara is a rightie.

Nice to see Korshkov get on the board. I like his overall game but be needs to work on his speed a little

And what more can you say about Sandin. The is the Marlies best dman and has been for a while.

I see no reason for him not to be in the opening lineup come October

This is why I’m curious about the lefty righty thing. Seems like Sandin’s chances are very slim under Babcock unless there’s an injury.

I think it's more to do with him being 19. Liljegren has an extra year of experience, has been getting tough matchups all season and has blown the doors off the corsis. So if you ask me, he's a near lock.

With sandin a lot depends on what their d looks like. If they lose Hainsey Gardiner and Zaitsev without replacing them with anyone, then sandin will battle it out with Holl, Rosen, this Finn, etc. And because of his age and waiver status, unfortunately he'll have to be a lot better than them in preseason to get the spot. But there's a very real chance that he will be. So don't worry about that. Worst case they call him up mid-late season like they did with Dermott. I don't think that's necessarily a bad move. They may learn more about the bubble guys this way. Will make it easier to decide on them when they call up sandin.

I don't think Mike is going to have much of a choice. Hainsey is gone, and Zaitsev is likely to be. What's he going to do, play Justin Holl over Sandin? (please lawd, don't let the bad man do this)

It's too bad about Hainsey.

I really wouldn't mind bringing him back as extra depth, but you just can't afford to do that if you're also keeping Babcock as your coach.

... AHL corsi numbers? Do we have those?

I feel the same way. And it's at this point where I think to myself, 'if this is the case, we need to fire the coach'.

My thinking too. If Dubas is at all thinking that his coach has to be managed like this, he should’ve fired him. I’ll give Dubas the benefit of doubt here but I have a sneaking suspicion we’re all going to be sitting here in November concerned about the same things.

He's dropped some stuff on twitter through out the year, the rest is behind his paywall.

I can find some of his single game numbers on Twitter but wish there was a way to see over a longer period of time.

My guess is Liljegren makes it out of camp but Sandin would take an injury call-up.

The Marlies were down 2-0 after the first but they've stormed back to take a 4-2 lead in the second...

Marchment from Brooks and LoVerde
Marchment from Liljegren
Moore from LoVerde and Liljegren
Moore from Mueller and Bracco

Bracco has 12pts in 7 playoff games and leads all AHLers in playoff scoring.
Sandin has 7pts in 7 playoff games and leads all AHL defensemen in playoff scoring.
