Leafs' Prospect/Marlies Discussion Thread!

you know... i think i'm where i was last year on our draft.

i felt underwhelmed by the knies selection too. think there may be a few decent picks in here, time will tell.

I'd wager Minten's numbers were impacted by minutes and role. Probably has good p60s and p160s. Leafs scouts know what they're doing.

The scouting reports seem a lot like Knies actually and even if you have questions about how good he ultimately ends up, he’s turned into a pretty valuable trade chip with his progression.

I think his offensive upside is probably limited, but like Knies he’s something they don’t have. A leaderbean, two way checking center. If that’s what he becomes that’s not a bad late 1st/early 2nd. If he can skate it seems like a pretty safe pick. That seems to be their MO with their recent top picks. Although Robertson busted out post draft.

they took the swings on skilled midgets later.

Ha.

  • Minten only played around 14 minutes per night on one of the WHL’s best teams, playing behind one of the best CHL prospects in Logan Stankoven.
  • He was 7th among WHL forwards in this year’s draft in total primary points, 7th in even strength primary points, and 5th in powerplay primary points.
  • With his ice time, he had the third best primary points per 60 rate, and rates ahead of the likes of first rounders Conor Geekie and Reid Shaefer.

They've been lacking a true center prospect for quite a while. By the time JT is gone he could slide in as nice two-way 2C if he reaches his potential. I trust the Leafs scouts on this one. I know they have their reasons for the pick and they've got access to way more info than Presto does so who am I to judge?

Nice find.

I don't have many concerns about our drafting still even if I don't "get" every pick immediately. I think the processes they put in place for hiring and scouting are pretty strong. That's not to say they're always going to make the best pick but I have less fears we're picking Biggs etc these days.

And if in a few years they're all Hunter-esque busts then I'll be out for blood. The process seems right to me tho. Pretty Tampa Bay-ish.

Who are our picks in this range from these scouts?

Sandin
Durzi
Robertson
Hirvonen
Niemela
Knies

Yeah I'm not worried.
