Leafs recall Sandin & Liljegren / Rielly out eight weeks with broken foot

Silver lining time.

Mo has clearly been hurting most of the year. 8 weeks is plenty of rest for basically any other injury that doesn't require surgery. 8 weeks from today is a return on March 9th. There are 13 regular season games left between March 9th and the end of the season, so plenty of time for Mo to get back into game shape for the playoffs, looking like last year's Mo.

Also a pretty golden opportunity for Sandin to force his way onto the team full time.

why couldnt it be ceci

This is what I said when Mikheyev got hurt. Terrible, but true.

On the bright side, we get to see what this team is made of. I don't think we're going to see us do any worse, in fact we may surprise on the upside, I think. Bring up Lilly too and then we're seeing what life would be like without Muzzin and Rielly, which is as close to seeing what life would be like without Muzzin and Barrie, and that'll give us the best possible preview of what's in store on D next season. Sandin and Lilly will prove primetime ready, Muzzin and Barrie will be shown the door, and Pietrangelo will get the red carpet.

Contrary to Mindz's comment above though, I don't think a rested Rielly is going to be a better Rielly after having been off skates for two months. We might get a diminished version of what we'd normally expect when he returns.

That assumes our defense was doing a really good job. I think the crazy offense we have has carried the team and will continue to do so now that we've been stretched to the limit on the blueline. And Sandin and Lilly will prove more than competent replacements.

Truth is, Rielly has been pretty awful most of the year. Barrie kinda sucks. Muzzin is overrated with respect to what he brings. Ceci is junk. Holl has been a surprise, and Dermott has performed as expected. So, not like we had something special going on back there. Sandin and Lilly in for injury riddled Rielly and Lilly for Muzzin could actually be an improvement. Just get Lilly up here soon so we can find out.

Leafs rank an excellent 6th in xGA/60 under Keefe.

A mediocre 16th in GA/60, but that's due to a .902sv%.

I don't like Sandin nearly as much as Lilly. I hope to at some point But he is too small, and too slow for me to like this move.

Lilly is faster, he might not have as high an IQ, as Sandin, but Sandin is a crafty little smurf of a rat, who has to be crafty and intuitive, cause he skates very poorly, for a guy his size.

Dumb move. First dumb move since the new Keefe era imo.

All I can say is that I would be tempted to trade almost anyone on the team for Jordan Binnington, but St. Louis would be dumb to make that move, not going to happen.

Note the one footed pivot to change direction rather than a hip turn/crossover. That's elite shit.

He's not fast (yet), he's still a bit physically under developed. But his IQ is stupid high and his edge work is fantastic. I've raved about Lilly's skating since we drafted him and feel pretty vindicated watching him play lately, but he's way more north-south with his skating than Sandin is. Faster, better glider. But for changing direction and edgework, Sandin all day.

Boy, I sure don't see that. I have never been wrong on something like that in forumice history. I thought Crosby was done on concussion issues.

But skating, physical, calves(lol)

Dude, never wrong that I can remember. Schenn, FIRST. Babcock, FIRST online for sure.

Mogilny best Leaf ever. First.

Nah, I don't like Sandin, I think he should be baked to a crisp.

I wonder how Schenn would do with our development staff today. Have to think Underhill would be able to get his skating to improve.

Also Teeds:

......

Matthews has shitty lungs. I don't need the telemetry to see that .

But hey, Dubas signed, him for large.

Nylander put on huge huge weight, Dubas signed him for large.

I gotta say signing these young turks who haven't even won a free burger at Mcdonalds to huge contracts is Schenn dumb.

No telemetry, in 2019? No telemetry? Hahahahahahahahahah

Corsi this, those stats are jokes.

Gimme the heart rate of every player on the bench and I can tell who will 80% of the games.

CV% Corsi, good god guys. So ****ing boring, or you talk about contracts. Both are boring as hell.

My silly ego has calmed down to the point, where its not about being right, its about becoming a team like the Washington Capitals.

They BLEW, BLEW, me way when we lost to them in six games a few years ago.

Incredible skaters, incredible players, with competent goaltending and a great white shark(Tom Wilson) to strike incredible fear.

Imo. The best team I have seen in the NHL in the last 25 years. Its the Caps. Big men, who can outskate smurfs all across the board.

Can they be beat, sure, its the NHL. Its the world. But year in and year out, what an amazing construction.

They exhausted our young guys, to the bone in six. We played very well, but they just killed us in terms of skating and possession.

If I could sit down with Dubas, I wouldn't be drafting Robertson's at all, I would sign them up as free agents.

Its partly why Marchment disappinted me so much lately. The guy is a goner Didn't do anything for me to continue to trumpet his ability.

Soupman, Korshkov's, Engvall's are the way to go.

I think Dubas is good, but he is reminding me of the other youngest GM in NHL history, Gord Stellick. Get thick, fast skating beasts. On all ends and get two or three good to very good goalies.

Mindz, that little clip you displayed? Its open ice stuff where there wasn't any pressure.

Lilly is thick... He can take a punch. Sandin, should be baked imo. No way he should be up in front of Lilly, its a slap in the face of Lilly imo.

As Tom Skeritt said as the father of Brad Pitt in the River Runs though it, "I am displeased".
