Leafs - Sens - Habs 2013-14

He's started 47 games .924 sv%

That puts him tied for 6th in the league and he's played the most games. Two of the guys ahead of him have started less than 30 games.

They'll complain about Price even if he wins the gold for Canada. Sloped foreheads usually do.

???

I'm glad Price is in the net - he's the best we got at the moment. But that doesn't mean I am confident in our goaltending heading into this tournament.

I'm really not. You guys aren't understanding what elite is. To claim that a player isn't elite but was chosen for a lack of better options is absolutely contradictory to what the word elite means.

Price was chosen to team Canada because he is one of the top Canadian goalies. WHether someone feels goalies from other countries are better is irrelevant. We are talking about the Olympics.

Actually, the Olympics is the one time where if a goalie from another country is better than you it IS relevant.

Price definitely deserves to be on Team Canada....but that's not the highest bar in the world.

Still, Price is actually legitamtely putting in a very good well above average season.....for the 2nd time in his career.

How many 26 year old goalies have more than 2 very good seasons under their belt? He'll have a few more.

The good thing is that he doesn't have any really bad seasons. In his not great seasons he's been average for the most part with a couple that were a bit below average.

hilarious.

May i remind you, that you called Arturs Irbe elite?

Did you forget to take your cranky old man pills?

I called Arturs Irbe elite in Latvia. It's amazing how obtuse you choose to be.

Peter Budaj is on an olympic team.

You do understand the concept of being elite in a sub-segment right?

Probably not.

I don't have a bouncing ball so hopefully you will be able to follow without one.

Arturs Irbe is an elite Latvian goalie.

Arturs Irbe is not an elite NHL goalie.

Carey Price is an elite Canadian goalie.

Now where your argument comes in is where you draw the line at elite for the NHL. Top 5? Top 10?

It can still be argued that Price is an elite NHL goalie based on his competition. It can further be argued that his numbers may be better, or worse, depending on which team plays in front of him. It's a very subjective topic.

Considering I watch the Habs games and see first hand just how many times he is left out to dry on 2-on-1's and 3-on-1's, and just how many times he has saved their bacon (there are games he's let in 4 but should have let in 8) I will maintain Price is an elite NHL goalie. Hockey Canada agrees.

I doubt it - and certainly not me.

And HP, you did claim that the gulf between Karlsson and Subban (offensively) was small. You pegged Subban around 60-65 and Karlsson 65-70.

A quote would be nice. That Subban projection looks like what I'd expect but I'd like to think that I'd have been calling Karlsson a 70-75 point guy. So yeah, at best Subban could be within 5 points and at worst with 15. That said, I may have overestimated what Subban will do on a yearly basis. His spread may be even wider. Most years maybe just under that 60 mark with the potenial to pull off a 70ish point year if all goes well.

They've really got PK jumping up a lot less and playing him in more defensive situations than last year.

No different than the NHL. Hockey is a team game, they can have an elite goalie and crap up front.

except in the NHL you have the world's base of goaltenders to choose from in theory.

In the Olympics you must choose a from your own Nation

Price is one of the best Canada has, not one of the best overall.

Doesn't matter how they try and slice it, Price is an elite goalie. Sure there may be a few better but he is definitely in the elite category.

Yes, he is one of the best overall. When he is named the starter you are not allowed cheering for Canada. You must cheer for the U.S. since you're a "fan" of a US team *chuckles*.

Your Canadian rooting rights have been revoked here.
