Les Habitants Prospects Thread

I don't know if it's been discussed somewhere, but Hockey's future updated their Organizational Rankings. We're now 4th, but they still count Price, Kostitsyn and Chipchura as prospects.

http://www.hockeysfuture.com/articles/10088/hockeys_future_fall2007_organizational_rankings110/

4. Montreal Canadiens

Strengths: The Habs have a bright future ahead and continue to boast one of the deepest prospect groups. They have elite prospects in Carey Price and talented Russians wingers Andrei Kostitsyn and Mikhail Grabovski. Complimenting the high-end talent is a group of solid if unspectacular players, including Alexei Emelin, Pavel Valentenko, and Ryan O'Byrne. There is also no shortage of two-way defensive minded forwards like Kyle Chipchura, Maxim Lapierre, Ben Maxwell, and Ryan White. Further down the depth chart are some offensively gifted projects Mathieu Aubin, Sergei Kostitsyn, and Corey Locke.

Weaknesses: While there is no shortage of talent in the system, there is a clear lack of size and grit, especially among the forward prospects. In addition, though there are several offensive-minded prospects on the blueline, they still lack a power play quarterback and a solid defensive-minded defenseman who can log big minutes. On a whole, Montreal has plenty of quality in their system, but the top three organizations had just a little more.

Top five prospects: 1. Carey Price (G), 2. Ryan McDonagh (D), 3. Andrei Kostitsyn (LW), 4. Kyle Chipchura (C), 5. Max Pacioretty (LW). Key graduates: none.

Grabs may not be that high anymore, and Kosti the younger appears to have moved up a few pegs.....The kid looks good.

'Dogs shutout Griffs in New Year's Eve tilt, 1-0
12/31/07

GRAND RAPIDS, MI - Jaroslav Halak posted a 22-save shutout as the Hamilton Bulldogs blanked the Grand Rapids Griffins 1-0 on Monday night at Van Andel Arena. With the win, the ‘Dogs record improves to 11-14-1-5 on the season.

Despite out-shooting the Griffins 13-5 in the first period and 13-6 in the middle stanza, the Bulldogs couldn't muster a goal and the game remained scoreless heading into the third frame.

At 6:35 of the third period, the Bulldogs broke the stalemate on the power play when Janne Lahti posted his fifth goal of the season. Daniel Corso broke into the Griffins zone and fed a backhand pass to Lahti who made no mistake to score the only goal of the game and give Hamilton a 1-0 lead. Pavel Valentenko also earned an assist on Lahti's goal.

Between the pipes, Jaroslav Halak stopped all of the 22 shots he faced for the Bulldogs and earned his 11th career shutout in just his 57th AHL game. Jimmy Howard was named the game's second star after turning aside 32 of 33 shots in a losing effort for the Griffins.

Hamilton was 1-for-3 on the power play and a perfect 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.

The defending Calder Cup Champion Hamilton Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008 when they travel to the Rockford MetroCentre to take on the IceHogs at 8:05 p.m.

Yannick Weber's final stats at this year's World Juniors:

6 GP, 2 G, 4 A, 6 PTS, 14 PIM, -2, 1 PPG, 27 SOG.

Our three prospects didn't rip up this year's junior tournament by any means but we can add these three names to our already solid depth in the system. Pacioretty plays the game with an edge and is always going to the net; Weber is an offensive defenceman that can apparently get the puck on net a ton (27 shots in 6 games); and Subban is a character guy (has a heart of Gold...no pun intended) with plenty of offensive abilities and can skate like the wind.

Subban didn't get to play much but demonstrated some good moves when he was out there. I could see him taking a much bigger role with Team Canada next year.

I don't think Pacioretty was healthy for most of the tournament. He does show a competitive streak, which is good.

Bulldogs win in OT, 3-2

HAMILTON, ON - Matt D'Agostini scored just 1:11 into overtime to lift the Hamilton Bulldogs to a 3-2 win over the Binghamton Senators on Wednesday night at Copps Coliseum. The win, Hamilton's fifth in its last six games, improves the ‘Dogs record to 15-15-1-5 on the season.

Scott May opened the scoring 4:12 into the first period, giving Binghamton a 1-0 lead. Nick Foligno and Josh Hennessy assisted on May's second goal of the season.

The ‘Dogs evened the score 1-1 at the 16:04 mark when Francis Lemieux feathered a pass to Ryan Russell who banged home his second tally of the season. Jonathan Ferland also earned an assist on the play.

While on the power play at 4:03 of the middle stanza, Lawrence Nycholat scored to break the tie giving the Senators a 2-1 lead. The marker was Nycholat's eighth of the campaign and was assisted by Alexander Nikulin and Ilya Zubov.

Hamilton pulled even when Ajay Baines notched his fourth goal of the season past Binghamton netminder Jeff Glass at the 7:37 mark of the second frame. Duncan Milroy and Conrad Martin, who earned his first-career AHL point, drew the helpers on the 2-2 goal.

After a scoreless third period, the game was forced to overtime.

At 1:11 of the overtime period, D'Agostini was fed a breakaway pass from Marvin Degon and made no mistake pulling the puck to his backhand and sliding it past Glass. The goal, also assisted by Eric Manlow, propelled the Bulldogs to a 3-2 win.

In his first start for Hamilton this season, goaltender Carey Price turned aside 22 of 24 shots to preserve the victory, while Glass made 33 saves on 36 shots in a losing effort for Binghamton.
The ‘Dogs were unsuccessful with the man advantage going 0-for-6, while the Sens went 1-for-1 on the power play.

The Bulldogs return to action on Friday, January 11th at 7:30 p.m. when they host North Division rivals the Syracuse Crunch at Copps Coliseum.

Yikes! Dogs' lose 7-2, Price a sieve

HAMILTON, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs dropped their second consecutive home game on Tuesday night with a 7-2 loss to the Peoria Rivermen at Copps Coliseum. As a result, the 'Dogs record falls to 16-17-1-5 on the season.

Hamilton opened the scoring at 11:50 of the first frame when Corey Locke broke down the left wing on an odd-man rush and snapped a wrist shot over the glove of Rivermen goaltender Hannu Toivonen. The goal, Locke's 14th of the season, was assisted by Greg Stewart.

With two goals in the remainder of the first period, the Rivermen took a 2-1 lead. Peoria evened the score 1-1 at the 14:47 mark on a goal by Nicholas Drazenovic. Martin Kariya then scored his eighth goal of the campaign with just 1:09 remaining in the frame on the power play to give the Rivermen the lead. Jean-Guy Trudel assisted on both goals, while Micki Dupont also recorded a helper on Kariya's go-ahead tally.

Peoria extended their lead with three goals in the middle stanza. Mike Glumac scored his 12th goal of the season on the power play (5:54), Nikolay Lemtyugov made the score 4-1 after he potted his 10th tally of the campaign (18:01), and Jeff Woywitka scored his eighth goal (18:14) to make the score 5-1 after two periods.

The Rivermen took a 6-1 lead at 11:52 of the final frame when Lemtyugov notched his second goal of the game. Julian Talbot earned the lone assist on the goal.

The Bulldogs inched closer at the 13:02 mark of the third period when Matt D'Agostini made the score 6-2 with his 11th goal of the season. D'Agostini has now registered a goal in four consecutive games (Jan. 9-15) and is also riding a career-high eight-game point streak (Jan. 2-15) with five goals and four assists during that span.

With just 12 seconds remaining in the game, Glumac scored on the power play to make the score 7-2 in favour of Peoria. Chris Porter and Ryan Glenn assisted on the play.

According to Guy Quon Dave, one who follows the Dogs regularly, the team played a completely different game in front of Danis than in front of Price.

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but it sounds to me like the players wanted Danis back for at least one game. And they gave their all for him. He earned it anyways.

By the way, I heard this morning that some reporter wrote that Price was a bit lazy in his game preparation. Heard that yesterday I believe (around 6:00 AM). Did anybody pick it up?
