Maybe he'll get to 60 before the end of the year? A bit of a stretch, but quite possible if he gets hot.

If he can get to somehow 50G 90PTS and have a solid playoffs, I'd be thrilled.
 
Deschamps is the only player in the Q with a chance to get 100 points. I think its been a while since the league didn't have a 100 point scorer.

Is that a sign that the Q is getting better defensively or that we can't produce offensive players anymore?
 
Well, I'm not exactly sure. I'm not exactly friendly towards the Q's make-money-first attitude over the OHL & WHL's develop-hockey-players-first-then-make-money attitude. Someone who follows Junior hockey could give you a better answer, but I'll give me 2 cents.

The Q just doesn't develop that many NHL prospects anymore when you break it down. JaysCyYoung & IrishWolfman made a top 50 hockey prospects thread and they have one goalie (Bernier), one d-man (Despres) and one forward (Louis Leblanc, although he's never been in the Q). Now go look at the mid-rankings for this year's draft. Outside of Brandon Gormley, a PEI native, most (if not all) lists have 4-5-6 Quebec players in the top 50, none of which are born in Quebec. As much as some people like Bob Sirois want to flap their gums about favoritism towards Western players as a reason why Quebec-born players aren't drafted as much, they fail to realize that Quebec just isn't developing players anymore.

Let's look at it from position to position.

The Q can't develop Quebec-born defensemen to save their lives. Just look at the amount in the NHL and look at the amount of good Q defensive prospects... There's maybe a handful? Simon Despres, Charles-Olivier Roussel, Jason Demers, maybe Gleason Fournier, and I can't think of more past that. dean & rouah could probably name you some more. But the point is, the amount of Quebec born d-men coming out of the Q is incredibly low. There is Brandon Gormley that'll be drafted pretty highly this year and Kulikov was drafted in 13th last year, although Kulikov only played one season in the Q.

As for offensive players, the funny thing is... Even though the Q is known for it's run & gun style, the OHL actually averages more goals per game now, despite developing more NHL defensemen. Not quite sure how that works out. The Q can still have some offensive players, just not as much as in the past. Last year, three of the best scorers were overagers that weren't drafted. Yannick Riendeau, Danny Massé and Alex Pistali (sp) were all signed to pro contracts by Boston, Montreal and Carolina respectively. Although it's unfair to judge them right away as Riendeau & Massé have missed the majority of the season recovering from surgeries, none of them have done squat in the AHL and Pistali is struggling in the ECHL. Then of draft picks of recent years, in the first & second round; Caron is taking a step back, Paradis can't even get to a PPG, Nicholas Deschamps is looking like a good one, Cormier's a meat head, MacMillan has been regressing, Esposito's career is over as quickly as it's begun, Perron is flourishing, Veilleux has no speed at all... That's from the last three drafts in the first two rounds. Looking further into rounds 3-7 you'll find some more players, like Gabriel Dumont & Gabriel Bourque in 2009, but nobody is using early picks on Quebec born players anymore because there's just a clear-cut lack of talent.

If Quebec still can do something right is develop goalies. The amount of goalies drafted out of the Q is still one of the highest around. Right now I feel lazy and don't feel like looking it up. ;)

But anyway, Junior hockey in Quebec isn't in good shape, and the ever decreasing number of players making it to the NHL out of Quebec is proof of that.

The one thing this team has is grit. They will not let anyone take cheap shots at teammates. Not sure what started White's fight but Whitey handled him pretty well. At the end Hodgman was really upset looked like he was going to push the linesman. Rosehill, who was touted as a Leaf tough guy at the beginning of the season ran MaxPac from behind. Henry kicked his ass and Rosehill was yapping the rest of the game but did nothing much physical. Didn't see the start of Stewey and Deveaux as the Marlies were going down the ice and actually scored but it was waived off. Conboy who is still learning took exception to an opern ice hit on a teammate I think Russell and followed suit. Good scrap. From what I've read about the Habs, they could use some of this attitude in Montreal.
