Les Habitants Prospects Thread

BTW, Hockey's Future has dropped Ryan McDonagh from 3rd to 8th in the Rangers most recent prospect rankings.

No longer considered a prospect at the highest level, McDonagh was traded to the Rangers as part of the deal with Montreal that sent Scott Gomez to the Canadiens. Although there was some disagreement about his development, McDonagh's first two seasons at the University of Wisconsin showed him to be more of a two-way player than the offensive blueliner that had been hoped for.

A tri-captain of the 2009-10 Badgers, McDonagh is a natural leader, who brings intensity to every shift. Not afraid to take the body and protect teammates when he can, McDonagh is expected to join the AHL Hartford Wolf Pack next fall.

It no longer seems like we gave up so much in the Gomez trade (other than the big cap hit).
 
Quick prospects update-

Gabriel Dumont got 2G 2A tonight in a 7-0 blowout of the Val-D'or Foreus. He's not at 47 goals & 87 points with 3 games remaining. Here's hoping he'll get to 50 goals, because the 90 points mark seems almost assured.

Mac Bennett has been stone cold lately. Only two points in the last 12 games, going back to January 23rd. He's only been a minus in two of those games, though.

Louis Leblanc was named Ivy League rookie of the year this week (Wow, such an accomplishment) and is apparently considering going to Harvard for a second year. This looks to be going south rather quickly... Don't let the Réseau Des Amateurs ass licking fool you, though.

Danny Kristo is at 13G & 16A in 32 games, which is not bad. Not great either, but definitely not bad.

I'm still bummed that Steven Quailer didn't play a game all year because of that damned injury. Now I'm worried about him reaching his potential.

Apparently the Bulldogs will be short-staffed this week because Pacioretty and Stewart were both injured in the last game.

Not sure why your so down on Leblanc like that. He said it from the start that he wanted to do two years at Harvard and then go to the AHL. No surprises there.

They'll probably call up Maxime Lacroix from the ECHL and play Eric Neilson who's been a healthy scratch a bunch of times.

I'm down on him because if he'll be spending a second year in Harvard, which'll add up to be three full years of wasted development for a first round pick. Three full years. USHL is a bad league to develop in, the equivalent of a Junior AAA league like the BCHL or the OPJHL, the ECAC is the worst of all the NCAA hockey leagues where he can't even become a PPG player...

It's one thing if a 6th round pick like Dustin Walsh wants to do it and go to Dartmouth, because the odds are he'll never make it as an NHL player so he might as well get an education, but Leblanc is a first round pick.

Leblanc needs to get out of Harvard and into the AHL after this season to salvage him. If he wants to go to school, he'll have all the time in the world after his hockey career's over.

Nope, he wouldn't. A player drafted from anywhere else, though, would be allowed to sign a pro contract with the team that drafted them and play in the AHL. Nikita Filatov, who was drafted #7 overall in 2008, played in Syracuse the fall right after he was drafted as an 18 year old.
 
I understand all that but it was known before the draft that he was going in that direction. If not, chances are he would have been drafted higher.

He's still leading his team in points (and penalties) as a freshman, if he had a bit more support he'd probably be a ppg player.

I'll see, we had busts developing in the NCAA, in the WHL, in the OHL, in the LHJMQ and in Europe as well. Each player is different and ultimately it's up to him to make it or not.

@GrandWazoo I understand that, but he's wasting the prime development years of his life so that he can do something he could just as easily after his career.

I just have a very, very bad feeling about him.
 
Leblanc will become a pro because of his talent moreso than where he plays right now...A lot of very good players come through the USHL and various college programs.
 
The one thing he has for him is that he seems like a very dedicated kid with a strong work ethic. Still I agree that he might not reach his potential because of his development path.
