MLB Draft Chatter 2016

All the free agents get put on waivers after the draft and the waiver wire order gets re-set to reflect the standings from last year. You can put waiver claims on players during the 2 day period they are on them.

I'm pretty sure you can put guys on the DL as soon as the draft is over.

Clicked the button to put all remaining FA's on waivers. All teams can now proceed to make their waiver claims. Hopefully Deckie can check to make sure everything else is configured correctly.

Didn't we say something about being able to DL guys who aren't on the actual DL yet (who have the red flag), or was that only being able to swap them out of the lineup for the remainder of the week?

Just notice that Anderson, who will miss most or all of the season, still isn't put on the DL yet, so I can't IR him yet in-game. Would definitely be nice to be able to do that before the top remaining guys get picked off the waiver wire.

The way to fix this is to change this setting (we currently have it checked):

Only players on the MLB Disabled List may be moved to the Injured Reserve slot

If checked, only players who are on the official MLB Disabled List may have their status set to Injured Reserve. Players who are on the MLB Disabled List must miss a minimum of 15 games (if they're on the 15-Day DL) or 60 games (if they're on the 60-day DL). Players who have "day-to-day" injuries are not on the Disabled list.
* The above means that if you have this option checked, there will be injured players who are not eligible to be moved to the Injured Reserve slot.

We've already discussed changing this setting in the hockey leagues to allow anyone red flagged to be put on the IR. I think it's reasonable to make this change, but everyone usually wants to have their say, so have at it.

in the hockey league it makes more sense as teams are intentionally not putting players on the IR due to the salary cap. its not really a problem in baseball. spring training is really the only time its a big issue where teams delay on putting player on the DL.

The only other case I can see is a player getting hurt and the team holding off for a couple days to see the final extent of the injury before placing him on the DL. But yeah, otherwise no team would ever not put a guy there.

The main thing we'd need to figure out is if we allow that rule, the guy gets his red flag, so I DL him in-game, but then he ends up playing soon after, to make sure teams can't cheat with extra roster spots. Especially since I think we decided to allow the roster moves for injured players during the week, this could be another way to sneakily swap out guys for the week. I'm just not sure how aggressive they are at getting those flags up on guys who aren't really hurt.

Yep, stick with what we've always done......it's worked pretty perfectly with us doing it that way, no need to change it.

I'm gonna need an exception for Greg Holland. He doesn't have a team but he'd certainly be on the DL since he's out for the season.

That's what I'm saying. He's out for the year and rather than put him on the DL his team just didn't re-sign him.

Does anyone here think there's any chance he'd not be on a team if he were healthy? And that team wouldn't have him on the DL?

its an unfortunate set of circumstances, it's nobody's fault. however unless he signs with a team and is put on the DL i think he should have to be kept on the bench.
