Necas Watch Thread...SIGNED

The teams with two first round picks in the draft would be the most interesting to watch in regards to trading for Necas if LeBrun is correct with a first round pick in play as part of a package platter. A solid NHL roster player and a first rounder seems fair. The teams with two first rounders this draft are San Jose, Chicago, Montreal, Boston, Calgary, Anaheim and Philadelphia.

Blake Coleman maybe? Decent two-way credentials. Manageable cap hit. A little old at this point, but you could get two years out of him.

I mean he's basically a defensive line specialist with this last season being a complete outlier for Coleman. In Carolina, used the way he would be here, he's 100% going to go back to being a 30-40 point guy for maybe a year or two. I'm not feeling it, although I like the player.

That's my feeling. Moved at the draft. A good current player is my thinking. If it's a really good current player, then Necas and our second? But probably something boring like us dealing our first for a load of seconds.

So ... what's everyone thinking? Necas getting moved today or what?
Moved or announced tonight right before the draft begins...a roster player and a fairly decent first round pick tonight for Necas! Did the Sabres make that move with San Jose yesterday when they dropped from 11 to 14 in the first round and banked an extra second round pick so they could trade that first round pick for Nachos...the rumor mill has Buffalo in the mix. Tuch and a first for Necas? Tulsky has to get more than one first round pick straight up for Necas for me.

Oh, absolutely ... otherwise he wouldn't be bucking the idea of an offer sheet so publicly. The price is most likely a 1st rounder this season plus a top 9 guy of some description, preferably one with reasonable term remaining. Tuch fits that bill nicely and I also think he'd fit Carolina's system well. Otherwise they'll just qualify Necas, go to arbitration and then try to move him after that dust settles. I really don't think Necas will end up getting/signing an offer sheet, although you obviously can't rule it out entirely.

And if Carolina does end up with two Firsts tonight, you can count on one of them being dealt for an NHLer. By now they know what the general UFA deal will be with their own guys. Pick the area of greatest need and go try to find somebody.

OK, so no first round draft pick package deals for Necas. On to Stage 2. Qualify the guy and keep the clock moving. I mean, I guess I could see a package involving a 2nd round pick, but the rest of the return would have to ratchet up. We'll see, but I always thought this would either be done at the draft or it would take forever.

The ask was too high. Necas isn't special and there's comparable productivity for less out there.

Thus far, the ask was too high. And these things are not static. If they could get their initial ask at the draft, cool. If not, it's not like they don't have options.

They wouldn't have wanted a way rounder this season anyhow from the look of that draft. They'd be better off getting a top prospect. Or a goalie...

How so? He works for Columbus and should be fired if he gave up #4 for Necas.

Don't believe the hype. Good player but please.

The Canes allowed him to negotiate a contract. Columbus and Necas agreed on a contract. Then Waddell said “just kidding”.

Oh you're one of those xenophobes. Feel free to skip my posts because I'll post wherever I darn please.

Come at me and I'll push back. Hard.
